retards try and do a celebration before they cross the line.

you see it all the time, don't show off till you actually win.

I kind of consider this a dick move, the person ahead has practically already beat you and you just lull them into a false sense of security just to sprint at full speed when they slow down thinking you've graciously accepted defeat. She didn't celebrate early, she didn't show off before actually winning, because for all intents and purposes she truly did believe she'd won. Red shirt deceived her way to victory.

Number one rule in long distance running:

Never assume you won, and go as fast as you can until 10 meters after the finish line. In cross country, there were dozens of times I would overtake 5+ people at the end of the race because they wouldn't sprint at the end and thought it was basically done. Having enough energy to continue on and keep running until the very end is what long distance is about. You don't slow down before finishing. Ever.

why the hell would it be "deception"?

do you seriously expect "second place" to give up on trying to win, just because you got near the end of the race?

that's not how races work. the point is to win

That wasn't deceit. That was determination.
