Three things:

1. Retailing at $120 as opposed to $190 for the 3DS.

2. Same day release as Pokemon X & Y. Retailing at $39.99

3. Most "3DS" games make little to no use of the 3D feature.

Personally, I think it's a genius idea, and will bring in a huge amount of money for Nintendo.

Remember, you can buy a 2DS, and either pokemon, together,, for less than you can buy a 3DS for. And chances are, after christmas, it'll probably drop another $20 off the 2DS, and 3DS.

I actually talked about this detail last night...might as well paste what I said right?

I think it's an awesome idea. However, if Nintendo wanted to avoid backlash they should have made it bundled with Pokemon X or Y. You know The blue 2DS gets X, and the red 2DS gets Y. That would have shut most of the angry fanboys up.

Reasons why I think it's great:
> Cheap, 129.99 is a great price for people who don't have a 3DS yet.
> It looks comfortable as **** , in fact I hear that it is comfortable as **** . People who demoed the system say that it doesn't leave them with wrist/hand cramps after extended play sessions.
> It gets rid of the pointless 3D gimmick right off the bat. Yes, I am aware that you can do that already with the 3DS.
> Because of the fact that it is getting rid of the 3D, I have a theory that it will have a longer battery life than the 3DS and 3DS XL. I am hoping it will be 15hrs like the Nintendo DS Lite.
> Because it was designed with kids being the targeted audience in mind it will probably be able to take more abuse and is a stronger system.
> No need to worry about hinges eventually getting worn out and becoming ****** .

Adding on from what I said: People seem to worry about the portability of the console. They worry that it won't be able to fit it into their pockets, saying "It's mostly a 3DS with the screen always flipped up and it's about the size of it. There's no way it's fitting in your pockets". After hearing this, I decided to test it out on my 3DS and put it into the pockets of my jeans, cargo shorts, gym shorts, sweatpants, and track-pants. The 3DS with the screen up fit perfectly in each of them.

Now onto the issue of the 2DS of being the same as the 3DS with the screen up, turns out, that isn't the case as you can see in the image used from Eurogamer's hands on look at the system. Definitely smaller than the 3DS XL with the screen up and still smaller than the regular 3DS.

My apologies for the long comment.

Nintendo made it only for those who cant afford 3DS. They know what the are doing, so shut up!

The 2DS actually makes sense, if you'd all quit being stupid for five seconds. It's designed for kids so they can't break the back part off and the 3D won't hurt their eyes.

Why would nintendo want to create the 2DS anyways?

Reggie flat out said its a cheaper alternative for people less than 7 year olds who's parents didn't buy them the 3DS either because of the health warnings or it was too much.

Plus it's launching around the same time as pokemon

I knew a lot of people would bitch about this... Its for younger kids! That's why they got rid of the folding because its less likely to break that way, and they got rid of the 3D so it doesn't damage little kids still developing eyes! They also dropped the price $50, so now maybe families who couldn't afford a 3ds can afford a 2ds! No ones making you buy this!

the 2ds looks stupid but i want to play pokemon x and/or y but cant afford a 3ds, and im not going to use the 3d on it anyway, so having a 2d cheap ds with the same games as the 3ds is great

They're not pulling an Apple. Do you have any idea what the jump of possible memory held on a DS cartridge and a 3DS cartridge is? A 3DS cartridge can hold about 8 gigabytes.

And potentially blowing off actual costumers, and not little spoiled kids? Like I said, still stupid.
They made a console that, not only is basically the 3ds with the 3d turned of permanently, but they made it look appealing to children of 3-7 years of age. What ever, It's not like i'm buying it, I already have a 3ds i'm just criticizing nintendo for practically trying to run themselves into the ground.

i always wanted a 3ds just for Fire Emblem Awakening but i couldn't really justify putting the money down for it. But now the system is cheaper pokemon is another game I would want and I can still get my Fire Emblem Awakening. Basically looks aside I really want this.

Serious question here: Isn't the 2DS just a revamped version of the regular DS? Like, 3DS brought something new to the table, but 2DS literally just sounds like a DS they're redistributing.

It just targets a specific audience like many handheld consoles before it.
Micro, SP, DS lite, XL systems... It's not a new concept.

It's just a DS where the hinge won't break when I rage at Pokémon. I think it's a brilliant idea, and it actually looks quite comfortable, cause I could never get the right screen angle on the 3DS.
