An asymptote is a line that an equation can never reach but gets very close FOr example, if we have 1/x, it gets closer and closer to 0 but never quite reaches it.

Yes, two parallel lines can meet depending on the geometric context. In the typical, standard context of Euclidean geometry, this is not possible. However, mathematics always "assumes" a certain context of restrictions and logical limitations (e.g. real numbers vs. complex plane). Real projective geometry is one in which parallel lines meet at a point at infinity. An interesting implication of this is that +infinity and -infinity are equal.

What it is saying is that if we stand really far away, the lines look like they are touching and therefore are. It is as hard to think about as why our government consists of the people it does.
