An MG42.
Apparently MG stands for Male Genitalia.

gewehr is literally = weapon
A spear or sword is technically a gewehr as well.
Usually tho, a gewehr is used to present any larger firearm, rifled or not.
The closest approximation in modern common language would probably be gewehr = firearm.

Nope.
'Gewehr' comes from the verb 'wehren', literal meaning of 'to defend'.
It originally designated small handcannons meant to be fired from a wall's embrasures.

Today 'Gewehr' serves as literal translation of 'rifle', meaning any weapon larger than a handgun with rifled barrel.
A gun with smooth bore would be called 'Flinte' instead.

tl;dr: Gewehr = rifle, firearm = Feuerwaffe

in this case it's actually: gewehr = gun

since: Maschinengewehr = machine gun; no real difference though

Nope again; 'Maschinengewehr' specifically means an automatic rifled weapon chambered for a rifle caliber.

"Maschinengewehr is German for "machine gun" (literally, "machine rifle")."

Das is the masculine form of "the", dass is the German word for "that".

Das = neutral adjektive. Der = masculin adjective. Die = feminine or plural adjective.
dass = "that", but only as introduction of a side-sentence which doesn't start with an object or subject, but with an action.
