i believe the original thing is that a butterfly can cause a tsunami on the other side of the world, i always envisioned this:
>butterfly lands on girl with foil baloon
>holy ****
>balloon flies away
>into plane engine
>plane stalls
>systems come back online
>navigation is ******
>fly to the Arctic circle
>out of fuel
>crashes into huge ice cliff
>cliff falls into ocean
>splash
>Tsunami happens
>russia+water
I've spent 3 days playing fallout 1.
I stopped to play AoE 3 I've won it, I'm not even halfway thru fallout yet... God I love that series, I have fallout 2 and tactics to play after I'm done with the first, and yes I know it's a 2001 game.
my freshman year of college, second semester, I was taking, seriously this is the name, "Honors Advanced Ordinary Differential Equations" a.k.a. hard as **** Calc 4. The guy who was teaching the class' name was T. Li. He was an old Chinese man, and pretty damn funny. One day he made some joke like, "Oh you say chaos theory? You must know my name then!" and I laughed it off, silly T. LI., what do you have to do with chaos theory?
Later I was looking around the internets and realized that his name was attached to all kinds of articles about Chaos theory, including being on a paper entitled "Period Three Implies Chaos", which coined the term chaos theory. Albeit the study of unstable dynamic systems had already existed at that time, my Calc prof is still the guy who coined the term chaos theory. His name's Tien-Yien Li and he teaches at MSU.
TL;DR I had the guy who came up with "chaos theory" as a professor in college
