Can't we all just agree that it is indeed a rock that is rendering?

pretty sure that's technically unrendering since objects will start with less polygons and more and more appear as it becomes better detailed.
gif is still awesome though.

Fyi, Those who want to know how to made that in 3ds max
> Make a random shape object with low poly, tesselate it by 1-2 illeteration, use subdivide then meshsmooth
> Done for the rock
For the 'poly reducing/simplify' effect (you need to animate this one, but I'll tell the basic)
> Use edit poly, select all polygons, inset the poly and delete the original poly, then select all vertexs
> Add vertex weld (keep ori setting) and add shell modifier
> Select the vertex weld you add before and raise the number
Basically, each time you raise number on vertex weld, the vertexs weld to the nearest one, thus lowering the vertex number and poly number

My method don't need Lattice or turbosmooth. If your object is random enough and you add meshsmooth/turbosmooth after applying shell modifier, you can make Voronoi like object, which is very popular on 3d printing.
