There are ones for cars too.

Why are we not funding those?

Probly because we have cars.

But bikes don't have traffic jams. Or require fuel. Or much maintenance besides keeping the tires pressurized.

Well they do require oil to keep the chains from gaining rust.
But except from that, not much maintenance.

1. Cost: a normal welded tube bike rack, a few hundred bucks, lasts a lifetime. This thing, i dont wanna know.
2. Maintenance: A welded tube bike rack almost never needs to be fixed.
3. Mechanical failures: If the machine breaks, good luck getting your bike back (lol)

I think it's a bike rental system, they are pretty common in bigger cities, but not as elaborate as this...

In that case, thats pretty clever. I've seen the large brick-and-mortar stores that do the same thing, but this is a great idea. Can just stick it somewhere in the middle of a sidewalk to rent a bike

yeah most of them just have electronic bike racks and it will automatically lock/unlock when you rent/bring back a bike.

You need to login to view this link

that's one of the services in my city, you get a membership card and swipe it at the stations

I saw an article for this not too long ago, I don't remember everything to a "t" but as far as I understand this is a parking garage for bikes. I believe it is the first of its kind and I thought it was in Japan, english lettering leads me to believe otherwise.

I could definitely see a rental company using this, but I think this is a demo video from the company that made and designed this garage.

Water pipes and underground wires get in the way.

Why not make a tower like this? Surely you can have a compact storage facility like this.

**** water. We don't need water. We need bike parking garages.

How often do you go outside and ride your bike?
User avatar #40 to #39 - threadz (07/10/2013) [-]
Not very often. But I don't live in a big city, and a system like this would be great for places like chicago where everythings is in biking distance of everything else.
