oh man, i love being german for the reason that we never have arguments about how to pronounce words.
instead, we fight over the gender of words.

OOOOMMERGD! She "misspronounced" a useless thing that the creator's correction wasnt even cared about. How dare she look at the word and pronounce it like the english language suggests. She should be stoned!

The creators of the format pronounced GIF as "Jif" with a soft "G" /ˈdʒɪf/ as in "gin". An alternative pronunciation with a hard "G" /ˈɡɪf/ as in "graphics", reflecting the expanded acronym, is in widespread usage.[5] Both pronunciations are acknowledged by the Oxford English Dictionary[6], the American Heritage Dictionary[7], and the Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary.[8]
According to Steve Wilhite, the creator of the GIF format, the intended pronunciation deliberately echoes the American peanut butter brand, Jif, and CompuServe employees would often say "Choosy developers choose GIF", spoofing this brand's television commercials.[9] As of 2013, Wilhite remains annoyed that there is debate over the pronunciation.[10][5]

That's like pronouncing the U in Scuba as "uh" instead of the "oo" sound because the U stands for Underwater.

General Agreement on Trades, general pronounced with a j sound, abbreviation pronounced with hard g sound (GATT)
The words do NOT affect the pronunciation of the abbreviation

True, however think of the word gift. Due to the extremely similar spelling, it can easily be inferred that the word should be pronounced with a hard G.

i agree, however, i hate when people say either, I prefer to say G.I.F.
gif or jif makes it sound like something dumb that the "young people" are in to, which we are.

Thats an awful reason. Hating something just because a specific demographic likes it.
Especially when you're on a site primarily used by that demographic. Also when you're most likely part of that demographic.
You also seem to be hating on it because its trendy. The **** are you some sort of hipster?

I dont hate it cause its popular with us young people, But saying gif or jif makes it sound like a dumb fad, and not an actually technical thing

So you dont like how it sounds to you, even though its actually a much easier word to say that rolls off the tongue.
You know what else sounds stupid but has a very important technical meaning? Retarding an engine.

Hold onto your pants, Im about to get technical.
Its when you time the distributor to fire a cylinders spark plug just before the piston reaches the top of the compression stroke so when the piston is at the top, the entire air/fuel mixture will have ignited.. Most engines are 15 degrees before Top Dead Center (TDC)
While its a ridiculously small amount of time, it does take time for electricity to move through wires and for fire to more through gasoline; and when you're talking about getting an engine to fire properly, that time counts.

Hard to say, but if I could chose one car to drive every day for the rest of my life it would be a Cadillac CTS-V with a six speed manual.

I like Cadillac but they aren't really handy on turns, Not that they are particularly meant to be, but i find it to be a fault on the engineers.
i too if having to choose would probably go with a luxury car.
Probably the aston martin DB9, really any of the AM's
they are beautiful, Luxurious, and can go close to 200 if you want them to.

hmmmm the cts-v
I don't doubt the quality of what cadillac makes, they make excellent parts.
but for some of their cars that claim to be sporty dont handle like a sports car.
thats all i meant, Too much weight maybe, or maybe just the distribution

It is the weight really, but wait for the ATS-V. Same power plant as the CTS-V, probably the same suspension, but much much lighter and smaller.
You prefer the Europeans to the Americans?

i would like to like americans, in terms of quality american cars have sucked up until the last 5 or maybe 10 years. now they are much better
but European cars are better overall.
american cars are just soooo heavy. and when they do decide to make a car thats powerful
its like 2 tons. eg, ford mustang. and even then, besides the shelby, they aren't all that powerful comparatively. and the panels are made out of plastic yet its still as heavy as a tank. i think they are putting steel blocks in the empty spaces :p

Yeah I find the plastic funny also. My parents have a 2010 SRT8 Challenger. ******* thing is 4200 pounds with a plastic dash, but the Challenger has never been about the interior.
The thing goes fast as **** with a tune and stops on a dime. Like that thing has no business stopping like it should, it should be illegal.
One of the things about the Challenger is that it has a cast iron block, which probably adds 200 pounds.
