not exactly, you can't make up facial features, people you see in dreams are mash-ups of people you have seen in real life, the same way you can dream of a mash up between different areas of your city, or even mash ups between video games...

So we can dream up entire worlds full of magical **** but not the vague interpretation of a human? Seems legit.

Son, your mind doesn't make anything up. I can't have something out of nothing.

GOD FOKKEN DAMMIT!

I have to find out, where I met that incredible hot redhead.

Close but it's like having a ton of legos for example and each person you saw, their face was a ton of different legos, now when you have met countless people you essentially have the equivalent of all those legos and your mind can create just about any image or face from that

This isn't true, it's a made up bit of pop-science that spreads by the fact it seems vaguely plausible.

Our minds are very good at mashing together bits and pieces and interpolating based on general patterns. Every time you look at a cloud and see face or a lion or whatever it's your mind adapting what it sees to various patterns. The same applies to people and faces. You know hundreds of types of each component - eyes, ears, mouths, noses, etc. and creating a new face out of adapted versions of them is no problem for the mind. Locations as well can easily be created because you know basic patterns of enviroments.

That said, you are more likely to dream of familiar things because it's simple easier and uses less brain power for your mind to call up a premade model.

Yes because I've seen people with the head of spiders who are evil solely because they don't pay taxes.
