Americans use to play Rugby. Or our version of Rugby. We changed the rules slightly, made it more 'Murican, called it Football (for whatever reason), but all in all it was Rugby just the same.

One problem though.

Americans play to WIN godammit. In the 1905 season of 'Murica Rugby, 18 players ******* DIED. 159 were serious injured. Not "walk it off" injured. We're talking limbs mangled, drinking out of a sippy cup in a wheelchair injured.

Football was almost made illegal. Rugby all over the world was considered a gentleman's game. In America is a was a ************* BLOOD SPORT.

To save our version of Rugby, a few things were added to the game. Helmets, body armor, and most importantly- the forward pass. Thus severing any remaining ties to traditional Rugby and evolving Football into a sport of its own.
A sport no longer played by men, but by blood thirsty psychopaths, who would gladly murder each other over an inflated stitch of pigskin... if their armor plating didn't stop them.

for one thing only the ball carrier can be tackled, so that means there's less carnage. There are also rules with the tackle, you can't just knock someone over you have to perform a proper tackle and bring them to the ground from your force. That means you can't coathanger or just run into some little guy to tackle them. So, that aggressive **** in football happens less in rugby because there are rules that make it so the game is about more than just hurting and maiming players.
