I just put down a deposit for a house, for 12 months with three assholes. I now have 3.59 left. I haven't had a square meal in 4 days, but tomorrow I go home for Easter. If I have to jump around for a decent plate of food, I will goddamn do it.

Mfw I don't even go to college and this still describes my life perfectly. I work at Walmart and they cut hours all the time for no reason whatsoever... there was once a paycheck where I only received $200 for 2 weeks...

learn a skilled trade
#33 to #30 - jesusfrankenstein (03/24/2013) [-]
I'm a cake decorator. I would consider that a skilled trade.
#40 to #33 - tranminh ONLINE (03/24/2013) [-]
that's KIND of a skilled trade, but cake decorating doesn't require that much training. To be honest I can learn to decorate cakes if I felt like it. By skilled trade I mean like a mechanic, or an electrical engineer. You could go to trade school, try for a co-op program and work 2 jobs at the same time. A little sacrifice goes a long way.
User avatar #41 to #40 - jesusfrankenstein (03/24/2013) [-]
Doesn't require that much training? Who are you kidding? And not everyone can do it. If you can, good for you, but you're pretty much saying anyone can learn to decorate a cake. Which isn't true.
#43 to #41 - tranminh ONLINE (03/24/2013) [-]
to become an electrician you need to get become a cake decorator you don't. That's what I mean by a skilled trade, I'm not trying to affront you or anything it's just the truth.

In addition, scoping the market is important. The economy is in the ******* . Cakes are a luxury. Therefore cakes won't be in demand. On the other hand, cars are breaking down because people can't buy new cars so therefore mechanics are in demand.

The baby boomers are beginning to die off, so the medical sector will be in high demand. Doctors and other hygienists will be in high demand.
User avatar #48 to #43 - jesusfrankenstein (03/24/2013) [-]
Uh, have you worked in a bakery? Cakes are HIGH in demand. We can get up to 40 cakes a day at my bakery!!
#50 to #48 - tranminh ONLINE (03/24/2013) [-]
at a walmart bakery with a huge customer base that is not surprising. I'm talking about an actual baker (which is a skill) and has his own small business. You're defending your occupation but the fact still remains it's a job for a high school kid. Getting paid hourly at a low level job will not get you anywhere. I know this sounds a little conservative but if you want to support yourself you need to get out in the real work force and start learning.
User avatar #52 to #50 - jesusfrankenstein (03/24/2013) [-]
At least I HAVE a job and am not living on welfare. So yeah, you can take those opinions of yours and shove them right up your ass. Who the hell are you to tell me what to do with my life, anyway?

The "real work force" implying that my job isn't part of that.
#56 to #52 - tranminh ONLINE (03/24/2013) [-]
but you're working for a corporation known for its mistreatment of employees and you're complaining about not getting enough hours, that doesn't make much sense to me
#38 to #28 - isititis (03/24/2013) [-]
they cut hours so they don't have to pay full time benefits. most corporations don't pay benefits unless you average 40 hours a week for a certain period of time so if they work you 3 weeks full time bet on the 4th being somewhere near 20. it's really pretty ****** up because essentially companies take advantage of people who don't know how the labor laws work or desperation to make ends meet. really the best option is to learn a skilled trade or find a union job. i mean you could go to college and get a degree but there's a very real possibility of ending up back in the same boat with a pretty large number of graduates. in other words, **** is pretty ****** .
User avatar #39 to #38 - jesusfrankenstein (03/24/2013) [-]
Why the hell do people keep telling me to learn a skilled trade?? Last I checked cake decorating required a set of skills including people skills, art skills, organization, etc. etc...
#42 to #39 - isititis (03/24/2013) [-]
because you didn't specify what you did at walmart and walmart doesn't have any skilled trades outside of truck driving. while cake decorating may take a certain skill it isn't a recognized skilled trade in the way that carpentry or welding is. now if you were a pastry chef that would be a different story.
User avatar #53 to #42 - jesusfrankenstein (03/24/2013) [-]
Excuse me? I'd like to see you sit down and just decorate a cake just like that. Yeah, that's what I thought. It's a learned skill, but a skill nonetheless. So therefore, it's a skilled trade.
#55 to #53 - isititis (03/24/2013) [-]
were you hired with no previous experience and then given training? i think you are getting confused by what defines a skilled trade and what is just skilled labor. sorry to say that i can and have decorated multiple cakes because it really isn't as difficult as you think it is. considering you're being overly sensitive to mine and tranminh's constructive criticism and clearly lack any kind of understanding on what the real world work force is going to be like you have no right to complain about losing hours or making maybe a little more than minimum wage for the rest of your life. have fun with your dificult cake decorating at walmart. by the way i hope that cake you posted in comment 33 isn;t one you did because it looks ******* awful.
#16 - curbed (03/24/2013) [-]
And it's ******* true. We eat such **** food on a normal basis that when we hear that someone will pay for our food by going out to dinner, we will ******* starve ourselves so we can stuff ourselves at the before mentioned dinner. That's why we get so upset when we hear that the dinner got canceled... I know that feel all too well... D;
