I'm sorry, I'm not a fan of FMA but I have seen pictures of that dog pop up here occasionally but I never completely understood why everyone went nuts over it. Your gif almost single-handily explained the whole thing for me.

Its not that she just was its that her dad fused her with the dog as an experiment. really sad moment in the show. and it spawned one of the most memorable lines in the show.

It's almost exactly what happened in the second one, too, disregarding the police van. Regardless, I love Brotherhood more as well but as far as pacing and direction go for Nina's little story arc, the first FMA was a bit better.

meh I disagree, was way too flashy in the first one and doesn't feel like something the two would do.
The whole arc of the series is their transition from hapless and relatively useless children to FSU adults.
raiding a caravan and succeeding is not in the spirit of hopelessness the series tries to convey. plus at this point the boys
don't really have quarrel with the military, again the childish naivete and trust is there.

Brotherhood did it much better with scar just ghosting both of em while the Elrics were still coming to terms with what happened
adding even more desperation and uncertainty. besides the military already has talking chimera's that came out of research with the stones.
So a dog that can barely talk is hardly a big deal to them, certainly not worth an entire caravan for.

I don't refer to the boys partciular reactions to the military-- just the raw gut-wrenching emotions. The pure rage and almost death of Tucker at the hands of Ed's fists, Nina's words, etc. I just felt that there was more raw emotion involved in that one scene than Brotherhood. It felt rushed in the latter. Of course everything in the first 15 or so episodes was rushed because they needed to catch up to the division point between the two animes.
