<My project car.. picked it up for a grand a while back with a big hole through cylinder 4. Been a work in progress ever since.

My friend had Two Mustang SVO's.
One was just the body and the other had everything...Although the one with everything had an annoying speaker system built into it...so the body was ruined.

He ****** took everything out of the White one (with speaker system and engine) and put it inside of the Red one. (that was basically just a body + wheels.)

how long ago? did it throw a rod and shoot out of the cylinder head or blow out the side of the sleeve.

Eh.. probably 6 months or so.. I was working on the engine in a shed basically and winter rolled around (no heat in the shed) so I oiled the hell out of everything and I'm waiting for it to warm up a bit to start working on it again. Here's a pic of the cylinder/rod. It looked like the head gasket blew right over the cylinder and it tried to hydrolock but the piston fell apart instead. The guy I bought it from said he was driving and it started to knock then died and wouldn't turn over anymore.

holy christ on a cross. if it was a knock then I would suspect main bearing failure. That's what mine is in the shop for right now. I've got the engine out and on a stand. Have to strip it down to a bare block and get the crank and rods machined down. Spun a bearing basically. good lord im not sure what happened to your sleeve though. detonation is what I would expect. what are you gonna do for it? pick up a short block and a head? then get a full remachine?

I actually got super lucky and found a guy locally that sold me his short block from his 05 legacy gt for $200 and it only had 40k on it. His turbo blew out and he was paranoid that a bunch of metal shavings tore up the internals so he took it to maperformance in Minnesota to have them check it out and they said everything was all clear. He decided to go with brand new everything for the rebuild and built a 420hp monster (which is for sale right now for $14,750)

Here's another pic of the disaster before I cleaned it all out.

well if the piston basically...crumbled....there has to be significant damage to the valves on that cylinder. right?

I ended up just buying new heads from an 08 STI to replace the ones that were on there. The drivers head had 3 bent valves and the valve seats were absolutely destroyed. Again, I got lucky on my new heads because I got them from some guy desperate for cash and the machine shop he worked for just gave them to him because the original owner dropped them off and never came back to pay for or pick them up. I managed to snag those for $275. So far, I've spent less than a grand to get as far as I am on this engine and I've been pretty lucky.

And here's how it sits as of right now. I just need new timing gears and a timing set then I should be set.
