It's the Opponent Process Theory: your fovea (in retina) contains cones with percieve 2 colors each (red-green, blue-yellow, black-white), and when exposed to one of those colors, the cones' sensitivity to that color decreases. Thereafter, if the color shown is taken away, the opposite (opponent) color for that specific cone show up, explaining why the opposite colors show up.

My brain can't understand this, it must be witchcraft.

someone should make this gif a bit longer,
on the second time around, it looks like the gif would repeat (at the stare at this black dot)
but instead of it showing the black and white image, it should be something scary
so it's like a jump scare gif

had to make sure some scary face wasn't going to pop out but pretty fucking cool

I can see the color of the picture if I don't make any eye movement. So the moment I make a slight movement all the color is lost.
