Cant handle my swag

Dude. We all know the difference already. Nobody on this site uses "swag" in anything but a humorous or ironic way.

However, it was Shakespeare himself who first used the term "swagger" (at least that can be reliably proved) to mean acting in a pompous manner, showing off. Clearly what this man did, while quite amazing, was not necessary and thus showing off.

Yet there are those that may still argue that bastard is an insulting term no matter what. For the record, I have no more evidence for my original argument but still desire to sound intelligent, so I'l refute individual points of your argument.

By admitting my previous comment, I was conceding. It was a humorous, self-deprecating manner of doing so, but I thought that point had been clear. A smart man might chose to do his homework before trying to claim something to be fact. That "Secretly We Are gay" thing was a bullshit theory someone came up with to make a joke about how people using the word swag were calling themselves gay.

The original term for swag had a few different meanings, but the general idea was that it was a bundle of some sort of product or goods (and a type of window drape, too. Apparently.) My opinion is that the term was taken by people who wanted to look up fancy ways of saying they had a lot of money and ended up adopting the word swag.

Now.....My issue doesn't lie with you having the wrong info. And you are right in saying opinions don't hold any real weight. But when you're trying to educate someone, don't try to do so by being condescending or using obvious attempts to sound more proper or classy than you are.
I'm sorry, but saying "Ah, however" in front of ANY opposing argument doesn't make you classy. It shows that you're putting on an act, obviously basing your dialogue on a cliche that all "classy" men speak like that. And frankly, saying stuff like that shows an obvious contempt for the others argument, and shows that you KNOW that your information is right (it wasn't).

You claim that the slang term for swag is an obvious attempt at seeking attention by basically putting on a show for the people who will fall for it. And I'm sorry, but I would think that putting on a grandiose act and using "sophisticated" words like "whilst" all for the sake of trying to appear to be "classy" is much closer to that definition.

You can claim that this isn't just a grandiose act, and that you're really classy. But people with "class" don't flaunt it like a badge or use it to demean others.
My information might be wrong. I accept that. But I believe myself to be right, and I don't put down those who would have the wrong information. Can you say the same?

Interesting argument indeed. However I am afraid I'm going to scupper it. You see, the way I speak is not because of some in-built superiority complex nor is it the result of sheer contempt for those less intelligent than me. Rather it is the product of the fact that I simply love language. I love to exercise my vocabulary and it just so happens that I also love to speak in the manner that I do. It allows me to practice unusual literary combinations far more than regular speech and personally I find that to be very engaging.

I do see your point, as there are many who wear the facade simply for the sake of a weak ego (similar to that of a "SWAGFAG") but, as is true with most things regarding human nature, there will always be exceptions to the rule.

Now, I do hate to seem condescending after beforehand stating that it is not my intent (personally I find it to be rather distasteful when not used for satire) but what you say about swag is only partially true. Whilst the term 'swag' has been in use for a long time, notably in pirates of fiction, it is, in fact, a somewhat different term to 'SWAG'. They are connected but in an unusual way.

The term 'SWAG' erupted because 'swag' was already a word and they could get away with using it. They could hide their hidden meaning beneath an accepted literal meaning. However those not in on the joke ended up adopting the term 'SWAG', believing it to be of a similar meaning to bling and the like. So you're not wrong, but there is more to the story than you say.

Now, the (arguably) condescending part. You made judgements about my character based upon what seems to be a single instance of my communication here on Funny Junk. If you did search through my OC and my other comments for proof to back yourself up you would find much in contrary to your argument. Ironically this is in contradiction to your opening statement (if you did, though, I apologise.) Whilst I do see you as 'smart' I feel this was a misjudgement on your part.
