Humans, in shape ones at least, are actually quite good at running. We can get a nice burst of speed if needed and can run for miles and miles and miles.

Yes, that relates to the part about heat venting. The reason we can run for so long is that our bodies regulate our internal heat much better than many other animals. From having a lot less hair/fur then many other animals, to being able to sweat readily across the body. Some tribal hunters hunt their prey just by chasing it for long enough until it wears out, thus being able to catch animals that would regularly outrun a human easily. Evolutionary theorists often speculate that this developed in response to our increasing brain size, since the human brain produces a lot of heat in a confined space, and needs to continue running without problems in order to survive and prosper.

Such wasted prowess if you ask me. One has the mental prowess to run animals to exhaustion and the mental prowess to find the answers of the universe, and yet many choose to do neither.

I disagree with your assessment most humans are incredibly out of shape and fat and or underweight. An average adult chimpanzee weighs 205 pounds the avg human male weighs 140-165lbs right there that accounts for a significant gap in strength. Now a chimp wills till be stronger than 99% of humans but we all arn't the pussy you yourself seem to be.
Note i once watch my 165lb friend beat a 300lb black bear in a wrestling match why? because we are college wrestlers in central PA and that is the kind of shit you when smashed around these parts. the key is our leg muscles are very very strong and they don't tire out if you know how to use your legs you can generate 2-3 times more force than with upper body alone is not more
