1. He's obviously correct to an extent, he just exaggerated the person's stupidity.
The person has obviously dealt with snakes before, and this is a common way of dealing with them. You do not grab them so they aren't tempted to turn around and bite you, you hit their head with something and then grab the neck so they can't reach you.
This person obviously knows it's an inanimate object, but doesn't really know how to deal with it, so their instincts kick in from dealing with dangerous animals.
