He's cowering down, his thighs coming out of holes in the back of the pants, in the area where the knees are. The pants are filled in with something to make them stand up. I assume he also padded the left side of his shirt a bit to make it look more as if the upper part of his body is separated from the lower half. The right camera perspective is also adding something to it.

I thought he had lost his legs, grabbed fake ones, had great arm strength and was bouncing around

He's in a sitting position, only the lower halves of his legs are in the pants, the rest is probably on a frame or something. he's hopping about as if he had been tied to a chair.

I would agree with that if he wasn't offset from the legs. If he was sitting it would be incredibly painful to walk like that as his torso would be twisted.

it's just slightly twisted to the side... there's likely a counterweight inside the pants to remove stress from his legs too.
