The guy would have disengaged, found the kink in the other guys army, then proceed to stab the shit out of that. There's a reason the rapier evolved from the broadsword, and not the other way around.

depends on the skill of both the fencer and the longswordsman. I'd personally drop into a hanging stance and circle the fencer. Wait for him to attack, parry and take his knee out. Or force him to engage, get in close and stab him in the eye with the quillons.

The rapier replaced the braodsword and longsword in the 16th century not because they were somehow superior to them, but because of the introduction of firearms on the battlefield. You couldn't have lines of full plate armoured behemoths with greatswords marching towards the enemy anymore, they're be riddled with holes half way there. So soldiers started to be armed with rifles, pistols and the rapier, a light fast weapon to get in quick and kill before the enemy has chance to reload.

A skilled practitioner of Longsword will still be a match for an equally skilled Fencer.

Start foil! It's fantastic! Not that I'm trying to sway your opinion or anything...

Epee, foil, or saber?

The rundown: Epee- You can touch anywhere, anytime you wish. The first guy to get it, gets it, and if you hit at the same time, you both get the point. The guard is big, and heavy, but the weight is needed because you're often locked with your opponent and trying to push his weapon away before you disengage.

Foil: You may only touch the chest or back. If your opponent attacks first, but you counterattack, and you both get the touch, then the point goes to your opponent. The guard is smaller and later, and the blade is more wet-noodlier. This allows for quicker hand motion.

Saber: Anything waist up is acceptable. You may only hit your opponent with the side of your blade. The guard curves to protect your hand almost completely.

Any questions?

Quite like the sound of that one

It's the easiest to learn, being that the only places you can touch your opponent are everywhere.

Did you slash or poke with the tip?

Did anyone wear shiny vests?
#27 to #24 - theshadowed (01/19/2013) [-]
No. It wasn't an actual fencing group, it was with this adventure place, so we just stabbed, lunged and parried
User avatar #28 to #27 - cirquededc (01/19/2013) [-]
Then... If you're good at poking go with epee if you don't have good aim and foil if you do! Bam! Problem solved!
