He was up there for awhile, being suicidal and whatnot. And at one point, he started to reposition himself, and one of his feet slipped over the edge. The flag or whatever he was holding onto broke off and he fell to his death. It's on youtube, but I'm too lazy to look for it atm.

He slipped off it, which gave him the starting sideways momentum.
As he fell, that momentum carried him more and more sideways with the increasing speed.
Had he fallen normally, he probably would've lived... With severe injuries and likely paralysis.

Funny thing about that, suscide is illegal. It may sound funny and ridiculous, but it's so that by trying to save someone's, you're actually preventing a crime and can't be held accountable. That's why I found this whole scene to be silly.

Two points I want to make here.

A) That jump is completely survivable, he really needs to step up his game next time

B) There is a certain epicness to talking some one off a ledge, so I would've been pissed if I were a negotiator and some one did that.
