bunch of states in america did online polls to seceed from the USA after obama was re-elected, and got a large response. but nothing will or can come of it, its just a bunch of butthurt rednecks venting more than an actual thing, no state is in any position to leave the usa let alone start a battle for freedom.

Fun fact, what Lincoln did was not allowed under the constitution of the time. It was illegal for him to attempt to stop the south from seceding. History is fun.

Texas can technically leave whenever it wants. That was a condition of its joining the union

I thought that they couldn't technically secede, but they have the right to split into five different states. At least that's what my history teacher was saying on Wednesday when we had a discussion about it in class.
He's been wrong about other things so I'm not entirely sure this is true.

according to their constitution they are free to leave the union whenever they please. maybe the 5 states thing is true too but they are also free to leave at their owl leisure

Ok, thanks. That's what I thought it was, but my teacher kept insisting that they couldn't secede that it wasn't in their constitution. He's been wrong about a lot of things regarding laws and government.

well technically its not in the constitution but it says that the state only has to listen to the constitution which is silent on the matter so it can do whatever it wants with it. And that's how legal documents work! lol
