I'm from Minnesota, and we just voted down a law which would have made gay marriage illegal in our state's Constitution. Leading up t the election, we had so many dumb commercials trying to convince us to vote yes, most of which were absurd. They were things like, "if gay marriage were legalized, they would teach your kids to be gay in school just like they do in Massachusetts" (Which they totally don't do in Massachusetts.)

Well im expecting negative thumbs on this one, but i feel the need to say it. I'm all for gay marriage, but theres people out there who voted completely based on that reason. Im sorry but i feel the nations dying economy as a whole is more important to worry about then why gays cant be married outside of new york or california.

(Straight guy here)A couple of weeks ago, I said to my family, "If Romney is elected, I am leaving..." Constantly bickering about basic social liberties is a waste of time and resources, Obama can easily say, " **** the Church... I'm the man at the wheel right now..." and I really wouldn't be surprised if he did in his second term. And not to mention that people really believe homosexuality is a slippery slope to beastiality, you do know countries like Canada and Sweden have legalized gay marriage right? you know what they don't have? guys marrying goats

Yeah, I bet he voted for Obama. Which I don't understand why. He hasn't done much at all for gay mirage.

But he has done more for gay people than Romney did. Like repeal the Don't Ask Don't Tell Act.

I find it absolutely hilarious when people say gay marriage will lead to bestiality and pedophile marriages. gay Marriage is legal in other places, and none of that is or will ever be happening.

the best solution for gay marriage, or more precisely, marriage as a whole, is to completely remove all religious aspects from interfering with the law. as it stands, there are legal privileges one can only gain by being married. so if you have to abide by a religion's code of conduct to get those privileges, how are church and state being separated? Marriage from a legal standpoint should be done away with and replaced in full with civil unions. That meaning, every couple that wants to be together in the eyes of the state would get a civil union. The only people who would get "married" are christian couples that want to hold a religious ceremony for their civil union, and this marriage would only matter to the church, therefor not providing any rights and not keeping anyone from them.

One day this moral revolution will be over, and genderless marriage will be available to all!

And then people will find something else to bitch about.

The cycle continues.

Love always matters, you don't need anyone to validate that.

Unless you love someone who's 15

What the **** does government have to do with falling in love "mattering"??

It's so retarded how people rely on government to validate their personal lives. I get that the inequality is wrong, but that's no reason to be dependent on government for emotional validation. If government didn't have a hand in marriage at all, period, you could be with whoever the **** you wanted.

In fact you already can. If I wanted to get up in front of people with my boyfriend and say we're in love and will be together forever, the government wouldn't stop me. All I'd be missing is some stupid, obsolete legal classification.

To be clear I"m not saying it's okay for the government to deny gays the right to a legal marriage. I"m saying the idea of a "legal" marriage is ludicrous.

If a law gets passed stating "no court shall deny people the right of marriage of whomever they shall choose."
Where does it stop can people marry little girls and boys because they love them
Can a man marry as many wives as he wants because he loves them.
Can a man marry an animal or inanimate objects because he loves them.
My thought is if people push for a law for marriage and go to far what else will get pushed through

I see no difference between the marriage of two adults of legal age and consent wanting to be married, no matter if they are a man and woman and of the same sex. A relationship that harms an individual (incest, pedophilia, bestiality) is a different matter. Polygamy isn't marriage, it's staking a claim on a harem. It is legal already in some religions and cultures but that's just the social norms you grow up with. Personally, I view marriage as commiting your love to one individual, and choosing to make that official in the eyes of the law to start a life together and possibly raise children. If gays can adopt or have a surrogate or even (in the future) have biololgically related children to both in the case of lesbian relationships then they should not be denied this right.
TL;DR Let gays be as miserable as the rest of us
