People often forget how BIG space actually is. There's a crazily small chance that our star and system would actually collide with another.

no one will die :P a sun wont magically fly towards us

gravity will keep objects away and stuff is so spread apart nothing will even come within millions of lightyears of us

That right there is a galaxy not a sun. And yes there is another galaxy "magically" flying towards us and in the distant future it will collide with the Milky Way.

Nothing like that wont happen, because not even a single star collide with each other, spaces are just too big. I'm talking about upcoming collision of Milky Way and Andromeda. Source: books.

If the Milky Way and Andromeda collide...Will the Reapers be unemployed, or have twice as much work to do?

very cool, except that wouldn't happen, no planets or stars should even collide. Literally, they'll phase together and calibrate, until they have assembled a new center of gravity. then they will coexist as a new galaxy. No one would die, there would however be a **** ton of stars in the sky after calibration! Oh yea, this would take thousands and thousands of years, not only to collide, but to settle, and the process of collision would take a while to. personally, i find that much cooler than the galaxies having a catastrophic collision.

<- pic maybe related

Actually, galactic collisions rarely involve star system collisions--stars are so far apart that they would not get remotely close enough to each other to actually collide in most cases. The biggest difference would probably be that Andromeda will be massive in our night sky.

It is so unlikely that we would hit anything, we would be fine in that collision. Plus it will make our sky look awesome!

also the heat and radiation would kill anything living so we don't even need to be hit :D

The collision gonna happen in 5 billion Years. We'll colide against Andromeda Galaxy.

Well the main reason it's almost impossible for planets to collide is because they're so far apart at this point in the solar system's life. However, during the formation of a solar system, there is normally just a whole bunch of particles floating around and slowly but surely they collide and coalesce to form the planets and pretty much every other thing in the solar system. Actually, the moon was formed when a tenth planet called Orpheus (also known as Thea) crashed into the Earth and blew off chunks of it. These chunks grouped together and started orbiting the Earth, but are slowly drifting away. (The moon will eventually move so far away that it stops orbiting Earth.) Here's a rather ****** video better explaining the moon's formation. www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnSYMHQ0cOo&feature=fvwrel As for the gif above, that is the projected collision of the Milky Way and the Andromeda galaxies, that is projected to happen in about 4 billion years. When this happens the two supermassive black holes at the center of the galaxies will combine and one giant galaxy will form. This isn't a common occurrence, but due to the massive number of galaxies out there it does happen. And now you're informed.
