you don't legally need 3 mirrors, it might have been closed for a reason

He's right. I've been driving around with a broken right side mirror and cops haven't stopped me for it, even if they do notice it.

Wing mirrors are a legal requirement, interior mirrors are optional.
#70 to #69 - macjigiddy (09/10/2012) [-]
Yeah you do. Otherwise they'd be optional when you bought your car!
User avatar #72 to #70 - gtaant (09/10/2012) [-]
tkuja is right, driver's side plus one more is required.

What about vans, and trucks?

Though if one is fitted it ought to be in use and usable, and is required for MOT. Police could always do the driver for driving without due care and consideration.
#71 to #70 - tkuja (09/10/2012) [-]
there must be a wing mirror on the drivers side and either of the other two, that's how it is

i don't know where you got this optional idea
#73 to #71 - macjigiddy (09/10/2012) [-]
What you're saying is that you only need 2 out of 3 mirrors every car has. If that were the case, why do all cars come with 3 mirrors -legally- as standard? If it was not a legal obligation, it would be an option discussed with customers when they buy a car as to which mirrors they would like.

Unless you can find the legislation, all of which can be found on the governments website, i'm calling bullshit.

UK MOT regs...

www.motuk.co.uk/manual_810.htm

Notice the 'or' between point b and c.

I still thinking only a moron drives around with a mirror folded in.

hell if i know

i can't find it, but google searches bring up plenty of results saying you only need the two
#79 to #76 - N. Korean citizen (09/10/2012) [-]
maybe that's for one country (us?) but in other countries you do need all three, so they just make the cars with three mirrors so they can be sold everywhere? or at least everywhere that drives on the same side of the road.
#136 to #79 - tkuja (09/10/2012) [-]
that seems like a sensible idea

in the uk it must also be 2, my sister hasn't had a right wing mirror for months and she hasn't been stopped once
#142 to #136 - macjigiddy (09/11/2012) [-]
I'm in the UK as well and i've always been told you need 3 mirrors. If you didn't, why do they make such a big deal about you checking your mirrors during lessons and on your test? I failed my first test for not checking my wing mirrors. It just doesn't make sense, to me.

i don't know, nor care anymore
