I'm going to have to be that guy but okay.
First off the situation in the Middle East stems LONG before 9/11 or other everts. Conflict between the Middle East and the "West" was started by colonization and European Imperialism in the area. One main issue that arose was the UK's creation of the state of Israel, which we all know has led to much conflict for decades.
The situation in Afghanistan and Al Qaeda also stems from the Soviet invasion of the country and the US supplying arms and money to them to combat the Soviets. One of the groups we supported was Al Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden. Bin Laden didn't like having the US and the Western world influencing Saudi Arabia (where he was from), and wanted US and other UN troops out of the country. He was exiled from Saudi Arabia for his political stance and radicalism. This is AFTER the Soviets were fought back.
There was another incredibly hostile state blooming further north known as the country of Iran. The US put a man in power to combat the Iranians so they wouldn't have to. A man who hated Iran and would go to war with them and keep them preoccupied. This man is Saddam Hussein. We gave Saddam weapons and money (which we kind of tried to keep secret) and he ultimately went to war with Iran.
Then Saddam turned his attention to Kuwait and its oil. The US didn't get involved until the Iraqis accidentally attacked one of our ships thinking it was a Kuwait ship. Thus the first Persian Gulf. Saddam was using our money and our weapons to attack our allies and countries we had an economic interest in.
If you look at the worst dictators of the 20th century you will see Saddam (responsible for over half a million innocent deaths and probably a million more). Saddam also had ties to other terrorists groups not necessarily Al Qaeda but I don't have to go into other details. Al Qaeda is not the only terrorist group in the Middle East.
TL;DR there are other reasons for the war in Iraq

America pop: 314,2 million
EU pop: 830.4 million
US medels: 104
EU medels: 306
I will now make an equation for the fun of it.
314,2/ 830,4 = 0,384
104/ 314,2 = 0,330
Just throwing this out there, buuuuuuuut It seems EU got more medels for each individual in their respected area.
The red thumbs can't change the facts.

>Al Queda attacks on 9/11
> US invades Afghanstan to eliminate Al Queda and Taliban
2002-2003
> Intel says Saddam has WMD's
>US invades Iraq for this purpose (or oil or whatever purpose you'd like to think)
>Bad intel
Al Queda actually hated Saddam and vice-versa. The conflicts were unrelated asides from geographic location and both were Muslim countries which is why people always grouped them together. Neither country even speaks the same language.
