Well Papa Het is fucking awesome.

He may have been and maybe still is a control freak, but he's an awesome control freak.

I'd say the band his a part of added quite a bit to the musical history of Rock, in both popularizing it and leaving their mark on the genre itself.

Contrary to popular belief, popularity, or 'going mainstream, isn't at all a bad thing.
It would serve to bring good music to the ears of many, rather than a select few who can then learn to appreciate and possibly delve deeper into just what the world of heavy metal has to offer.

Unless you're one of those purists that gives every little twoink of a string a sub-genre, I'd say you should give the Big Four of Trash a little bit of credit where it's due.

To clarify and avoid further shitstorm; The Big Four of Thrash being Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer.
Not the individual members of Metallica.

I wouldn't know how the inner workings of the band influence their general status but I do appreciate Lars's ability to bring actual rhythm and diversity to his drumkit rather than see how fast he can wobble his feet on the bassdrums.

He can't even do that anymore, he has very shitty to none fillers on Death Magnetic, unfortunately... No more off-time "wtf was that" AJFA type of drumming, I'm afraid

Well I've seen a couple of videos and documentarys about metallica, and Lars was on the drumms when creating a song, they had to stopm and fight alot because of him, but hey he was there.

I never heard about it, but ok. They still kick ass tho.

Oh and I do agree that he's a major jackass, but the music they made was epic and amazing, best of trash, they did get ruined lately, but they were amazing, a true icon of trash metal.

It matters little. I still enjoy the music they've made over the years.
Unless you, or I, have seen this personally, I highly doubt it's true.

But, to each his own.

i enjoy Metallica a bunch, not a big fan of the new stuff but who am I to decide what Metallica plays? I always thought that fans were just lucky to find a band that played music they enjoyed vs having a band try and appeal to the audience they already have. Not saying they should piss all over their current audience, but being a musician as well, its always good to experiment with your music or else you're in a musical rut
