you made a very ambiguous comment. if you'd have included some more dialogue, then maybe the reference would make sense.

as it stands, that particular sentence could be a "reference" to any number of different movies, videos and books, because it is so fucking ambiguous.

I believe this is Operation: Flashpoint with Donnie-Yen (I think that's how you say it) Very good movie and his fighting style is so cool to watch. He basically gets super pissed at this point and just performs the move you see in the gif

Leg Hook Belly-To-Back Suplex, which is the Tiger Suplex '85/ '98 ('98 for those Fire Pro Wrestling fans) invented by Mitsuharu Misawa (R.I.P. you great warrior you), or Regal-Plex, aptly named by the great Sir Steven/William Regal. Sorry for being a rasslin' fag as well.

That wasn't a Regal Plex (that's my preferred name for it because Regal, fuck yeah), her right arm was around the dude's waist. For a Regal Plex, you clasp the hand hooking the leg with the other one as it slinks around the opponent's farthest shoulder. I also looked up a video just to be sure of this and saw that Regal, Danielson and some guy from what looked like CZW all did it on the right side, which is abnormal of a move done from that belly-to-back suplex position. Not sure why they switch to the right for this particular move. Maybe it's easier to bridge? I really don't know. I feel awkward doing anything on the right. Anyway, in this case anon is right.

Or is the leg hook alone what denotes the move as a Regal Plex/Leg Hook Belly-to-Back Suplex/Tiger Suplex and the clasping hands is just a modification added by Regal?

It is okay. If it makes you feel better, I don't even follow Japanese wrestling or any independent wrestling beyond ROH and my local promotions. So you probably know a lot more than I do in certain respects.

Just some names, but mainly the moves. My trainer makes me and the other students do some studying to learn about the evolution of holds so we can possibly adapt our own. Fellow wrestler raises his glass to you sir.

Feel lucky your trainer encourages you to get that in depth. My "trainer" is really just a dude who had training for about two years with my state's biggest indie promotion before it closed, so he just so happens to have the most experience of all the people in our little start-up company. We're all just a collection of former yarders (yeah, sorry, taboo) under our trainer who somehow got his hands on a ring. He does know enough to run us through the basics and I feel like I've learned a lot from him in that regard, but he seems limited when I want to learn anything more advance. I did have one training session with another company here and they're definitely true professionals, but I live too far upstate from them to visit weekly, so this other guy is the best I can do. Right now, I just want to bide my time with this little company, getting what experience I can, potentially compiling enough footage to have something to show the third promotion in my state so I can get bookings with them. Then I'd like to move either to the West Coast or Florida after I graduate from college. I know the Northeast is supposed to be the pinnacle of American independent wrestling, but a few friends told me it's easier to get bookings in Florida and that whole Southern region because the Northeast is more exclusive. That's all hearsay, so correct me if I'm wrong.

Sorry for going on so much about my little indie woes. It's just nice to stumble across another wrestler on FunnyJunk.
