i have to hop in on this shit,,,i went to school for gunsmithing not to long ago,,the ak-47 is only aesthetically similar to the stg-44 hitler did not want to produce the stg-44 his generals went against him on that,,,,but the ak-47's operating system was based upon the american m1 garand i have both,, gas piston system,,,the reason the ak is more reliable than the m-16/Ar-15 setups is because of manufacturing tolerances and the differance between the piston system of the ak and the direct gas impingment of the ar the ak dosnt blow raw dirty gas right into the reciever neither did the garand but another factor in the ak's reliablity and innacuracy at range is a combonation of the the caliber and the tolerances on the ak,,dirt and grime rattles out of the ak,, the AR/M16 gets dirt in it and its not a happy piece,,, reliability and accuracy are a trade off,,the ak was to be used in full auto demonstrating russian doctrine of overwelming force en masse,, the m-16 was designed for american doctrine of all soldiers are marksmen,,both are excellent at what they do,,but the stg had nothing to do with ak design the ak was more based on the american m1 garands system

"This is the AK-47 assault rifle, the preferred weapon of your enemy; and it makes a distinctive sound when fired at you, so remember it."

The AK-47 is based off of the STG-44.
The STG-44 was originally called the MP-44 as Hitler believed that they should stop making rifles and focus on SMGs and small arms, they narrowly got it in under the pretense that it was a small arms gun, with a stock, and large magazine.
Once Hitler saw how it fired and how well it worked, he told them to make more.
The Russians found it during their offensive on their way to Berlin, but preferred the Mosin-Nagant, PPSH and PTRS to it, as they believed that nothing good could be German made at that time.

Russians know how to make reliable weapons. Are they the most accurate? Not usually. Will they get the job done? Absolutely. Will they fail? Only if you force them to.
