Yeah, if you've got the time and know-how, building a Windows (or Linux, if that's how you roll) based PC is the way to go. Otherwise buying a computer works just fine. I mean...

I'm planning on building my first computer since I could use the money that would have been spent on building. Any tips on where to go/ what to look out for?

well i don't know what kind of computer you want , if you want gaming computer the best CPU choice is the intel's i5( you don't need a stronger CPU/i7 for gaming) and the suggestive GPU is either HD6870 or the GTX 560 ti . PM me and we can talk a bit more : )
