okay, so the receptors in your eyes are tonic, meaning they adjust to conditions.
so, when you stare at negative colors, your eyes start assuming that those colors are your zero-point for color.
then, when the image changes, your eyes send a new signal to your brain.
this new signal is... that.
or, ya know, it's magic or some shit.
