I'm about 5'10" and 145 pounds, and I'm looking to tighten my abs/chest and add some muscle to my arms. My diet is poor and my metabolism has made up for it, however I'd like to get myself in shape. What exercises should I do, and what changes to my diet could help?

Try this very effective and simple, yet difficult task. Only drink water and milk (skim). No exceptions.

Water isn't a problem, but I really dislike the taste of milk. Also, is it necessary to completely cut out diet sodas, or can they be consumed sparingly with lots of water?

Personally, I do not consider diet sodas any better than regular sodas. I actually cut soda out 3+ years ago, before I even went on a Nazi-strict diet, so I don't see them as necessary at all.I just say focus on drinking water because it is somewhat easier and people don't even consider how much soda/juice/sweet drinks they have. Try to strongly limit the amount I would say.

I've been drinking soda my entire life, so it'll be a tough habit to break. What I'm really interested in, though, is what exercises I should start doing. I enjoy running, so I'm considering buying a treadmill when I get a job, but I don't know much about getting the definition I want on my abs and stuff.

Believe me dude, If I could stop drinking soda- so can you. My AIM username was "Soda Adict" before I stopped...

Abs depend almost entirely on losing weight. My New Years resolution was actually getting mine to show up. Here are some of the work outs you can do to build them (I bookmarked this page):

www.bodybuilding.com/fun/complete_ab_training.htm

As this article says, you need to "cut" or lose weight to get them to show up. Read the "Cardio" section to get an idea. However, since you also want to improve your chest and arms first, you should probably try to build muscle and then get rid of the fat afterwards (bulk and then cut). This article has all of the work outs you need for your abs, but what equipment do you have access to for the rest of your body?
