Can anyone give some fitness tips to a 13 year old? I really need to get more fitter, walking up the stairs for me is almost turning into a chore for me
Since your still growing, please don't over do it with the weight lifting, other wise it will stunt your growth. Work out by using your body weight, start by doing small things in a short time and gradually increase the intensity and time working out. Don't stress out, your body takes time to lose weight.
Don't listen to him... Lifting weights can't possibly stunt your growth unless you get severely injured.
There are only two things that have a real effect on your height:
- Genetics: This is how tall you can possibly get, the "potential" you have.
- Nutrition: Being malnourished or sick for a period of time will it impossible for you to reach that potential. The longer you're under-fed the more potential height you're losing.
Correlation does NOT imply causation.
Slanted lifted weights since he was young and he is short. That's a correlation, but that doesn't mean lifting weights made him short.
If you're fit enough after walking/jogging for a few months then I say if you want to go to the gym and lift weights. If you prefer cardio try some new, higher intensity activities like cycling, climbing, swimming, boxing, etc.
Stick to whatever you like and have fun with. (It might take some time to get used to exercising consistently, but you'll end up liking it; guaranteed)
Good luck :)
