I'm actually quite interested in analyzing pictures to find symbolism and such. The illustrator for these comics is very deliberate in his use of faces and proportion to body size. This goes beyond the wrinkled man being short, fat, and ugly, but also that all of the faces other than his are the same . He literally places a smiling, decapitated head on top of his that is similar to that of the women he is trying to woo in order to gain attention. The obviously gruesome image of blood spattered on his face is still enough to fool them, but it also covers his eyes, blinding him in the process.

TL;DR: Reading into stuff might seem stupid at first but it actually adds depth and can make things more enjoyable.
