>''gained the companionship of a wolf''

Humans didn't go straight to taming wolves. Wolves turned to dogs (there are a couple of theories on how this happened, but we don't know for sure how) and then humans stepped into the picture. Not only that, but it's impossible to completely tame wolves. There are some wolves that have been with humans since pups and can keep their cool in cages, but they're not truly domesticated. I don't care how ''tamed'' a wolf is, try and take it's bone away. I dare you, I double dare you, mother ****** .

>inb4 you must be fun at parties.

Joke's on you, I don't get invited to parties.

Dogs were a lot bigger back then so they could fight a saber tooth. **** would be so cash to watch two giant animals brawl and then be-friend the winner.
User avatar #193 to #178 - mutzaki (04/11/2014) [-]
The largest sabertooths were a lot heavier and more muscular than our current tigers. The largest canid that has ever lived weighed less than half of a typical sabertooth. That's fairly irrelevant, though, as the first canids we started taming were grey wolves, which weren't much larger than our current ones. I'd say a pack of 4 or as many as 6 wolves would be able to do it, but just a single dog scaring or fighting off one of those cats is a romanticized fantasy.
