Most sharks don't die if they stop moving at all, the few that do can still survive for a while when stationary.

I can see it now: it's after work, and the regular crowd of marine biologists walks in. After a few drinks, the boasts start coming out. Sharks, octopodes, electric eels, sea urchins - each man trying to outdo the other with tales of his kissing prowess
