What kind of intivirus for Win7 do you recommend ?

I used to use F-secure, but am thinking about NOD32 for a change

I use AVG, and it is by far the best I have ever used. I also run Microsoft Security Essentials as a backup.

I have not noticed any inhibition of my computer's performance from having two anti-virus programs.

Just don't use Norton, Norton practically is a virus.

I personally use AVG Antivirus 2012 Free Edition. I've never gotten a virus whilst using AVG (I've been using it since 2009).

I highly recommend it, but don't know much about other security softwares, so you might want to dig deeper.

I give AVG a 9.7/10.

Is it any good at real time shielding? and how heavy is it concerning CPU usage?
User avatar #9724 to #9722 - ScottMJfan (07/03/2012) [-]
It's very good at real time shielding. If there is any attempt for a virus to infect your computer it will automatically remove it, however if it finds that you have downloaded and infected file it will ask you whether or not you want to move it to the "Vault".

Basically, real time shielding is great, never had a problem with it. During the shielding it doesn't take up a lot of CPU power, however I have mine set to do an entire computer scan every day at 5:00pm, and that obviously uses a little more CPU power, but you can customize the priority of that or when you want the virus scan to go off.

The whole computer scan doesn't affect me to much, but I have a pretty good gaming PC.

About the 'moving to the Vault' part; do you mean it will try to disinfect? or just place it in quarantine? (with F-secure I had both these options and more)

User avatar #9741 to #9726 - ScottMJfan (07/03/2012) [-]
It's kind of a quarantine place, like, the file can't be used, but it's still on your system (but can't infect anything else).

It will try to disinfect it first, though.

However, if you do something like VBScript, it will think that it's a virus and try to move to vault immediately, so you have to remember to take care of that.

You got to be kidding? From what I've read, MS related antivirus software are the last thing you should want

Trust me man bring MSE, Its the best anti virus, free of cost and light weight, its protecting my pc for 2.5 years.

You read it wrong then. I have MSE for half of a year on two computers(one for my family) and I never have a single virus or any issues.
