Well macs are really only good for video editing. imovie comes as standard, along with garageband and all the basic stuff you need to make and edit videos. Other than that evverything else is overpriced for what you really get.
I got my Windows laptop for £500 and while I sorely miss imovie, I can finally play games and not have to be disappointed when a program doesn't run on mac.
My 4 year old old macbook was £700, and what did that extra £200 get me? Nothing at all. You're better off looking for a Windows laptop that contains the stuff you want for a much better price than just going for a macbook because everything comes as standard on it.

By video editing I'm talking about programs that come as standard.
imovie is the better editing software when compared to Movie Maker (ESPECIALLY Live Movie Maker).
Also, you have Garageband with a mac, and the equivelant (audacity) has to be downloaded.
Don't get me wrong, Windows is the better one of the pair, but mac has good points too.
