Can snakes feel affection towards their owners? They seem like a cool pet, but would they even care if I'm gone?

Owning reptiles since i was a child i have discovered one thing, snakes are really ******* dumb.
Get a lizard, my favorite are Blue tongue skinks, very social lizards and they become very attached to you over time, when i come into my room all three of them know it is ************* affection time so they gather up here for pets.

Not entirely true. Most common pet snakes are dumb e.g. Ball Pythons are as thick as it gets. But their intelligence varies a lot with species.
I looked after a false water cobra for a few months and that thing was a whole different ball game. They are widely regarded as one of the most intelligent species of snake, showing many signs of increased awareness and intelligent behavior.
There are others as well, but that was just a personal example.

Forgot the related pic.
She was a hypo-melanistic one like this. Look at their adorable, angry little faces!

My friend and I are probably going to get a tegu when we get a house. What think?
I have 2 turtles, a Dumeril's boa, 3 cats, and he might get doge.

If you do get a tegu, try to get one as young as possible. During their young life they are more likely to learn affection towards you. This goes with most monitors

That's what I;ve heard, it also helps with them getting along with other pets. My friend (primary owner) has done a lot more research than I have.

Yea, a black and white tegu looks like a good choice, and big enough my cats wont try to eat it. Other monitors freak me the **** out though.

I;m sure they can be cool, but the ones I've seen move around fast and tear the **** out of their food.

Its an ongoing battle, some say they do and some say they don't. I've never found out.

If I had a snake crawling on my face, I'd at least like to know that it likes me, instead of haing the chance that it's complete indifference to me could waver on the fact that my ear might look tasty

They are smart enough not to do that, only time i have ever been bitten by my snake was after feeding him, saw another warm thing coming and thought food, not like he tried to eat me he just nipped me.

He will, by smell, recognize you as a safe thing/place, but not necessarily as their owner or as a specific person.

I'd like to think that every animal is capable of feeling affection. Snakes are intelligent, so I'd say they can be some what affectionate ya know?
