sorry about that explanation. posttwo summed it up except for instances when i would view certain posts (usually the ones that were glitching) and FJ would be zoomed in by about 40% (text, pictures, everything) for no apparent reason. it doesn't seem to be doing it today but nothing has changed on my end?

So I've recently been experiencing an issue with uploading certain animated GIFs where the GIFs appear to be corrupted during the upload.

I've asked other people to do test uploads for me to confirm that the issue is not on my end and still had the same result.

I've created a video to be illustrate what is happening:
puu.sh/elRuN.mp4
Alternative download if the above does not work: www.mediafire.com/watch/ipcobhbpctflabs/Untitled.mp4
The video is just under four minutes long, so hopefully it doesn't take too much of your time.

the GIF that gets corrupted when I upload is: puu.sh/elKRd.gif
The resulting corrupted GIF is: puu.sh/elS5z.gif

I hope this is enough information for you to work with. If you need anything else just let me know.

Thank you for any support you can provide.

If you really want to help, you can download gifsicle and try different command line parameters, until you find one that converts that gif correctly, then tell me what you used.
User avatar #3006 to #3005 - admin (01/11/2015) [-]
This would help A LOT actually, but I don't have time to **** with it.
User avatar #3009 to #3006 - giffythetoad (01/11/2015) [-]
Alright, so I think I've figured out what the CAUSE is, and what a client-side solution is, but not what a server-side solution would be.
Video: puu.sh/emX1f.mp4
Alternative Download Link: [url deleted]

In-short, it's apparently because FJ is attempting to Optimize the Animation, which it does so well enough, but has one critical flaw: Frame delays.
When the optimized animation has new frames added, those frames are not given a delay time, which throws off the rest of the animation and makes the GIF look jerky.

I do not know if it is possible to adjust newly-added frame times to match the frame-rate of the document (that way they blend in seamlessly).

An apparent solution would be to simply leave the existing animation as it is and not optimize it, but that comes with the side effect of leaving GIFs potentially larger in file size than they need to be, which is bad for both the user and the host, so....I'm hesitant to say that's a "solution".

Can you tell me what the whole commandline FJ uses to process GIFs is? I could try playing with it and tweaking it.

The Optimize parameter has a couple different "Levels" of optimization too, which I think simply changing the level might produce better GIFs, but can't say without trying it first.

God, I'm talking too much. Sorry if I'm a little long-winded.
User avatar #3011 to #3009 - admin (01/11/2015) [-]
I have no clue why puu.sh deletes your **** and has nothing to do with this website.

$cmd = "gifsicle --optimize=2 --logical-screen 0x0 --colors 255 --no-warning --resize-width $newWidth $inName > $outName";

Figure out a way to improve gif conversion without making gifs larger though and I'll suck your dick.
User avatar #3012 to #3011 - giffythetoad (01/11/2015) [-]
Gah! I've sat here for the last hour just trying out different settings with gifsicle, but can't even seem to reproduce the problem...

Agh...this is a real pain...somehow, I don't know how or why, more frames are being generated and inserted into the GIFs when they're processed by FJ. Those added frames are used as the background for subsequent frames.

I'm using Gifsicle 1.87 64-bit and can not reproduce any issues at all using any of the available command lines.

Are GIFS being processed in any other way at all, or is gifsicle really the only thing touching them? I simply can't make any rhyme or reason as to how Gifsicle is generating those extra frames, and it's driving me mad.

I'm sorry. this really isn't a big deal and I dont' want to take too much of your time away for it. I tried though.
User avatar #3015 to #3012 - admin (01/11/2015) [-]
centos uses gifsicle-1.68-1.el6.rf.x86_64

That might be why. That's the latest "stable" version for centos 6

Use that version if see if it still happens
User avatar #3018 to #3015 - giffythetoad (01/11/2015) [-]
I'll install Centos 6.6 on a VM and then try running gifsicle from there. I should have done this from the beginning.

It'll take some time to download and install, so I will get back to you after it's all said and done.
User avatar #3014 to #3012 - admin (01/11/2015) [-]

User avatar #3017 to #3014 - giffythetoad (01/11/2015) [-]
Yeah, except I adjusted the resize parameters. But yeah, it was a different version of gifsicle, so idk.

I'm sorry, I just can not figure out how to work this. I've used Linux only a handful of times in my life.

I apologize. I am simply wasting both our time by trying this on my own. I have no idea what I'm doing. I've spent the last half-hour just trying to work this terminal and send gifsicle a command, but it keeps bitching about not being a valid job or invalid options.

I really feel as though I've gotten in over my head on this and do not wish to continue attempting this. I am sorry. I thank you for your patience with me. If there's anything I can do to help, just let me know and I will try.

But it's almost done installing, so I'll let you know what my results are as soon as possible!

Tried to convert source to WebM. MPC-HC / Chrome play it fine but uploading to FJ gives same error message as before: You need to login to view this link

Other video I converted works fine though (as seen here): www.funnyjunk.com/Tumblr+comp/funny-pictures/5416441/194#194

Maybe video length has something to do with it?
