Would there be possible to get a random button for channels that go to a random page in that channel no matter how long ago it was posted?
User avatar #56 to #52 - fuckthepopo (06/12/2014) [-]
unnecessary bandwidth stretch. that's why the random button already shows recently posted content.
User avatar #51 - amata (06/12/2014) [-]
It's time we went back to banning users for too many red thumbs. The only purposes negative levels could possibly serve is to encourage ****** trolls and to prevent users from being afraid of voicing their unpopular opinions. Since the second one isn't even a problem, considering how easy it is to get green thumbs on this site, all that happens is that annoying assholes get to clutter the comments section.

All right popo, go ahead and **** all over my suggestion, unless addy beats you to it. I'm gonna guess something along the lines of "Trolls are encouraged, and by trolls I mean unoriginal faggots who post obvious bait and just end up making the comments section a little ******** ."
User avatar #54 to #51 - fuckthepopo (06/12/2014) [-]
When the flagging system wasn't a big deal to deal with spam, porn, and gore, red thumbs were. This would prevent the user from posting any more with the account.

With the new flagging system, these things can be flagged easily, thus the need of red-thumb bans is entirely irrelevant.

Why should people be afraid of voicing unpopular opinions? Because you don't like a guy who says console is better than PC?
User avatar #58 to #54 - amata (06/12/2014) [-]
As an example: Say there's a piece of content in the animemanga channel. You can know with absolute certainty that in the comments section, at least one person is gonna leave a comment to the effect of "lol anime sucks weaboo faggots". That's just tiresome and annoying, not to mention practically being an insult to trolls who put effort into their work. Banning people for red thumbs would eliminate all of the ****** trolls that have come to plague the site.

The closest this comes to is spam, but it's debatable to the point where any mod is just gonna allow it instead of putting forth the effort to look into the details. However, since all of these trolls get at least a few red thumbs, my idea would serve as a potential solution.

Btw, I take back the second half of my previous comment. You responded far more rationally than I had assumed you would.
User avatar #59 to #58 - fuckthepopo (06/12/2014) [-]
Generally, it's the same anon/accounts who posts it. "Hide All" is your friend, because it hides comments from the anonymous IP.

To be honest, your idea isn't that ****** the way you put it, but people red thumb people for really pointless **** these days. There's lots of trolls who are freaking red thumb geniuses, and they're actually pretty good at bringing the community together. Like, derpalots, and his statement on the Jett post, or biebergotswag, causing a lot of people to get top comments and even make humor against it. If red thumb bans were in place, none of this **** would exist and the green thumbs wouldn't matter anymore.

I don't want to **** on your parade, but most of the people in this entire box are retarded. I'm a professional web developer and can see practically every repercussion of every suggestion put forward, so of course I'm going to dig deep to find the flaws.
User avatar #60 to #59 - amata (06/13/2014) [-]
Fair enough. Yeah, hide all works, but the mere presence of lazy assholes such as I was referring to is an annoyance, albeit an avoidable one, and possibly something that could turn off new users. You raise valid points, though
User avatar #61 to #60 - fuckthepopo (06/13/2014) [-]
The bad just outweighs the good entirely, and the community WILL get slightly more empty.

Plus, it will encourage trolls to make more accounts. Like we need a bunch of useless banned accounts increasing server spending because of all the bandwidth data that goes into individual profiles.

I'm sorry for about what I'm about to say. Funnyjunk was the first meme and rage comic website I regularly browsed, I switched to 9gag because they have a mobile website. Okay, the layout of the website now is absolutely HORRENDOUS. It used to be neat and relatively nice to look at but now it's just full-on ugly. The green outline around post pictures is really REALLY tacky, it's something I used to do on my pictures in PowerPoint presentations when I was in the 6th grade because it "looked cool". I'm sure you've lost many members/viewers because you haven't developed a mobile site or app so I'd suggest making one still, though you probably won't for God knows what reason. I'd definitely bring myself back to browsing FJ if the mobile website/app is nice. Oh sorry, and I_ just_ read the admin's top comment, you're an assplug bro, you ruined a website that had great potential.
User avatar #41 to #33 - fuckthepopo (06/11/2014) [-]
The main reason for member loss was the thumb ban several years ago.

It has nothing to do with the new layout, because we hadn't any more members then than now.

The mobile application is in beta. Obviously, if you're browsing with an iPhone, it's gonna be **** , because FunnyJunk's layout is heavily reliant on adobe flash. However, the mobile application on Androids is actually very useful, despite not having many features. Most of these features are already being considered and slowly added; running a large site like this is very time-consuming and it takes a while to get to everything,
User avatar #147 to #41 - mooshmallow (06/27/2014) [-]
Browsing on an android. And yea, but did you see what the ******** of an admin said? He said "I don't care about your ******* suggestions", I don't know if he deleted the comment or what, but seriously if you're going to run a website you shouldn't be a total asshole to the viewers.
User avatar #30 - suikerpapa (06/11/2014) [-]
How about clicking a notification brings you to the PM or comment that it's about, so for example when I get a comment on my content, I can click on the notification and go that comment, instead of having to search for it myself
User avatar #43 to #30 - fuckthepopo (06/11/2014) [-]
That will require singular notifications and send waaaay more notifications than necessary and that puts a lot of strain on bandwidth.
#27 - minibeep (06/11/2014) [-]
if you haven't sold this site to
EA, Google and Bank of America

User avatar #37 to #27 - fuckthepopo (06/11/2014) [-]
Why would any of these corporations buy a humor site that costs more to run than it does to bring in cash flow?
User avatar #26 - twondai (06/11/2014) [-]
there should be a flag option called "being a dickbag" used when someone 's putting spoilers without the spoiler function, or generally being an asshat.
User avatar #39 to #26 - fuckthepopo (06/11/2014) [-]
Why? Trolling is encouraged. This flag option will be abused drastically on almost every top comment.
User avatar #40 to #39 - twondai (06/11/2014) [-]
why would people use it on top comments?. besides, i'm pretty sure that flagging just alerts a mod about the comment, so he'll be the one to decide if it really is faggotry or just some asshat who flagged it because he was jelous of all those thumbs
User avatar #42 to #40 - fuckthepopo (06/11/2014) [-]
The current flags, like "Porn", "Gore", and "Hate Speech" are not matters of opinion; they are facts. Whether you take offense to something and think someone is a dickbag? It's a matter of opinion, and it would be stupid to flag something based on opinion. If you don't like their opinion, use the red thumb. That's what it's for, not to mention using the red thumb automatically hides it.

FJ points to buy things like coloured text?
User avatar #22 to #12 - fuckthepopo (06/11/2014) [-]
******* retarded suggestion. If you knew how colored text was actually set, FJ points and colored text are entirely irrelevant and not connected. Why the **** should colored text be that important to trade FJ points for? If you're already making good content or comments, you're getting colored text for how funny you are. But seeing as you can also trade FJ points, you can get colored text by mooching off someone.

tl;dr **** off

User avatar #19 to #8 - fuckthepopo (06/11/2014) [-]
Do you really want me to explain why that's such a ******* dumb suggestion? Because that's a dumb, irrelevant suggestion with nothing but downside conflicts.
User avatar #25 to #19 - misanthrizzle (06/11/2014) [-]
I disagree, it would make rolling somewhat interesting
User avatar #34 to #25 - fuckthepopo (06/11/2014) [-]
No, it wouldn't. Not to mention, there are rolls dating way back that haven't been flagged. With the new flagging system, almost every violating image has been flagged within the last 45 days. Rolling images that can potentially be flagged? Nah, son.
User avatar #46 to #34 - misanthrizzle (06/11/2014) [-]
Except that would help get rid of the porn posted any time before, how you can see that as a problem is beyond me. It's not like there isn't porn in comments today anyway.
User avatar #47 to #46 - fuckthepopo (06/11/2014) [-]
It just narrows down a selection and allows more recent comments to be rolled
User avatar #48 to #47 - misanthrizzle (06/11/2014) [-]
Yea that just seems boring imo, a lot of comments use pretty much the same images, if that was broadened to where I couldn't place exactly what comment was rolled just by memory, it would be more fun. I understand if that causes too much server strain tho for fj's servers
User avatar #49 to #48 - fuckthepopo (06/11/2014) [-]
extra server strain is more money spent as well.
