Didn't Lord Gaben himself say that for every meme about Half Life 3 he found on the internet he would delay it further?
But, wait, he worked there for 18 years...half of 18 is 9. 9-6=3
Half-Life 3 still confirmed!!!

half life 3 so 18/3=6
9-6=3

simple mathematics rules
18 is already stated
divison from name half (2); 18/2=9
divison from name again 3 18/3=6
(you can't just divide first number by a result, duh, therefore 18/9 doesn't work)
then you just subtract previous results
9-6=3

Half of 18 is 9, and the square root of 9 is 3. Could have had it so much cooler.
But hold on there
The square root of 18 is 4.242
There's one period, telling us there would be at least one game
There are two 4's and 2 2's, confirming there would be a second game AND two sequels to that one game
Halfway between 4 and 2 is... THREE! That completes the series.
Illuminati confirmed

they were never going to make it because it would never live up to the hype.

actually it was never gonna happen cos they wanted to continue the story with a film but it never developed
thats not a reason to not make a game lol, profit is what drives companies
Nothing can physically live up to the amount of hype that movie generated, it reached ******* critical mass. That doesn't change the fact that it's a great addition to the saga, trust me, I loved it, but it would have been smarter for Disney to bring it down a couple notches with the advertising and such.
I'd argue that it's past the quality of the prequels, especially in terms of acting and dialogue writing

Ok humor me. When is a person "tempted" to take a more difficult road for the benefit of others even though it means self-sacrifice? Nobody is ******* "tempted" by the light. They are tempted by evil, because the dark side is the quick-fix easy access to power without regard for others.
the hype began when the film was confirmed, when we knew about it being a real thing is when people started to say that. with Half Life, they never said they were going to do another, people just expected them to and that slowly built false hope and hype to the point it has become mythical.
Valve knows that the pressure to release something amazing is too high and too much of a risk to take.

As best product of valve each part of half-life must be epic as **** . If they would want release it today in form from 2009 it would be another shooter. In 2004 It was epic, because it was first production with shadows/physic in realtime/reflections. It has best graphic. And -thanks advanced physics engine. New level of realism. Next part will be released , when VR technology will be a standard in each house. Or, when they will be able to make photo-realistic graphic.

Well maybe if they haven't focused on those ****** episodes and went on to create HL3 a little sooner then maybe the hype wouldn't have built up this much.
But hey, if I had the choice between making money and making money while making games, I would probably do the opposite of what valve does.

They were never going to make it because Valve doesn't make games, they buy other companies with finished games and slap their names on them.

evilhomer (01/11/2016) [-] There's still a possibility of them releasing it since they have the license, but without the original writer it will not be the same
Considering how long it's been, the story was probably already written out.
That could be a possibility, since they need a system seller title for the HTC Vive but from the demo they released it looks like its just going to be another portal game.
Half Life 1 was one of the first games to do animations with skeletons and half life 2 had a revolutionary physics system. Half Life 3 will only get released once valve can do something as revolutionary as the other two games were, we will probably see something when vr gets released and is common place.
everyone knew it was never going to live up
but I guess DNF and more recently star wars has made people think that something could come

Click to show spoiler
it would just be another duke nukem. put it out of its misery, we wont get a good one if it is ever released
Except Duke Nukem Fornever was announced and had release dates and was delayed several times. We have literally not heard a thing about Half-Life 3 in years.
and all for the better, in the end, no matter what, it would suffer nukem syndrome,

What if Valve is trying to kill the hype so they could release it with minimal damages if it doesn't live up to people's expectations?
Well, he's the main story writer, and I'm guessing here, but I'm fairly sure that they write the story BEFORE they code the game (easier that way). So it could be that his part in the creation of HL3 is finished, and they no longer need him because the story is already done, and now the game just needs to be coded.
I don't get it. Why does this one writer leaving mean the franchise is dead?
Look at Star Wars, it had new writers too and it's new addition was pretty decent. Who's to say they can't just...y'know, get a different writer they see capable?
