Uh, I'm not sure of the exact source. I know it's Electra Heart era and it looks like it was a fan chat that Marina did at some point.

Actually this is a very simple Javascript script. I know this because I used something with this exact same functionality back in 2007. But for the less Javascriptey members, yeah it's the best excuse for "OMG WAT IS ADMIN DOING ALL DAY"
User avatar #335 to #329 - admin [OP](01/09/2016) [-]
>>#333, >>#331, 1) html5 cavas didn't' exist in 2007.

2) too i put 100+ hours into this update

tldr you're very wrong

So then the people are right and you're dumb for putting that much time into something so pointless?
User avatar #369 to #348 - admin [OP](01/09/2016) [-]
it didnt take me long but i spend like 10 hours a week jerking to huge dick tranny porn so i guess my life is pointless

#337 to #335 - mrdarp (01/09/2016) [-]
Can't argue with Admin. So exactly what HTML element(s) and script allow for things like this? Because I still have a script like this hanging around from 2007 and as you might guess it lags some people.

Does the new HTML5 version reduce / stop the lag? I mean yeah I keep up with the times but something small like the snowfall effect, I kinda don't keep up on. And I didn't notice any HTML5 substitutes for it when I was studying HTML5.
User avatar #338 to #337 - admin [OP](01/09/2016) [-]
you're right it didn't take long but it's html 5 canvas

i wanted to try it out

www.html5canvastutorials.com/

i read it was fast and you could make games with it

but it's lagging my browser now so i guess not

so i guess it's useless for me at least
#340 to #338 - mrdarp (01/09/2016) [-]
I read this article before but didn't notice anything that could have replaced the snowfall effect. Maybe I just scanned it too fast. Thanks, I'm gonna re-read this article again. I probably missed a few things.
User avatar #341 to #340 - admin [OP](01/09/2016) [-]
with html5 canvas you can take an image and animate it
src = '' + CACHEDMEDIAURL + 'site/images/snowthumb.png';

now make 100 of those objects

and loop the animation
User avatar #342 to #340 - admin [OP](01/09/2016) [-]
look at this codepen.io/LucasRw/pen/NxbQbb

simple enough
User avatar #344 to #342 - mrdarp (01/09/2016) [-]
Thanks a lot, I'll see what I can come up with. The 2007 code for this particular functionality lags FF right the hell out on older PCs. And my lead dev says there's no better way to do it than this. I always doubted him but didn't know an alternative. You may have earned me a promotion.
User avatar #345 to #344 - admin [OP](01/09/2016) [-]
because it uses html elements canvas doesn't use the dom
User avatar #346 to #345 - mrdarp (01/09/2016) [-]
Yeah I was always known here as the "DOMinator" cuz I knew my way around the DOM by just making Firebug break on any particular line and analyzing the right panel. But the DOM, understandably, is expensive. I've read a fair amount of HTML5 and thankfully it's able to replace a lot of functionality that was previously only possible with Javascript or JS hacks.

I'm just waiting until Javascript gets replaced by something a little more, um, not primitive and hacky, so that I can fulfill business needs easier without BS emails that contain corporate BS sentences and vague corporate BS messages. I'm comfortable with JS but I secretly wish Dart was a little more successful than it has been so far.
User avatar #347 to #346 - admin [OP](01/09/2016) [-]
js aint going anywhere probably

i read facebook doesnt use the dom it just renders html5 canvas and emulates a web page

User avatar #350 to #347 - mrdarp (01/09/2016) [-]
Yeah FB has it right. Don't rely on a 20-year-old technology for something that is so modern. The fact that the developers are tasked with supporting 99% uptime for literally billions of people makes me believe that things like MySQL and Javascript are out of the equation. To be honest I'm surprised that PHP itself can handle that many requests per second! That's one argument that I reserve for the ASPfags. I was never a fan of ASP or C#. Your ASP.NET site is so fast? PHP supports Facebook.....
User avatar #365 to #350 - admin [OP](01/09/2016) [-]
yeah facebook made hhvm which i use, it compiles php code to c

but now that's it's made i can just change the thumb and put iin any images i want

i.e. i can make it rain comments from this page so maybe that's useful

I'm not saying it's a bad thing if he had been working on this for the past few weeks.
User avatar #333 to #331 - mrdarp (01/09/2016) [-]
Well there's no denying that Admin works hard. Relax, I wasn't implying anything. But as a web developer I want to share the fact that something like this doesn't require 1,000,000 hours of math and calculus and calculations because there are people who will believe that.

I once had someone at work believe that a file disappeared when in reality it simply moved to another page because, um, she chose to move it to that page.
User avatar #336 to #333 - admin [OP](01/09/2016) [-]
that's quite interesting you're a time traveler and used canvas back in 2007
