technically japan got nuked twice though, and because of that they're happiness is killed b/c to fix themselves after the nukes they had to take up a work hard mentality which never got dropped and has lead to japan two of 3 extremes of working, one being work till they drop dead, the other being neets who cant handle working do to multable reasons so they aren't productive the third one is present in the middle east where young people wont work b/c they don't feel they have too as the oil money will pay for them despite being mentally about to do the work japan is using anime as a way to keep the neets from killing themselves. now that may not be a good thing to some but those people can get out of being a neet with time or desire. so really America is truly the reason we have anime.
The problem with neets or hikikomoris killing themselves is that Japan is already dealing with a population crisis.
Japanese tend to have an overdrive when it comes to work and inventing new **** . But that overdrive, along with the extreme emphasis on hard work, is causing significant mental damage to many people, especially businessmen, of whom there's a ******* of anime geared towards that we americans think is geared toward young and female children , which helps them find their childhood again and feel happy.
Anime is part of a stress relief system that helps keep Japan from being a nation full of suicides. This stress has caused people to literally drop dead on the trains or in the streets. There are crying stations where adults, full grown, will get together and watch sad movies in order to cry and relieve stress. Hell they have products like a phone bean bag that lets you snuggle it whilst talking to someone, that vibrates to mimic a human heartbeat. Strange to us, but to them, absolute luxuries.
The japanese need a ******* hug and the assurance that life doesn't have to be one great competition.

thanks for adding on to this. though north Americans are told life is a competition with jobs and stuff giving promotions to those who can do there best individually and we aren't in a similar predicament as japan, though this may be because of now much land we have and our culture being different. i had to end it here b/c i would have gone on
We have more of an emphasis in the west on "personal time," especially given how good it is for the economy. Most places give at least one day a week off and a week's paid vacation.
In Japan people are expected to work almost every single day of the year barring local festivals and New Year's, I think Only rich people can afford vacations.. and it's rarely paid.
The other problem is their college system. High schoolers are put through extreme tests to get into college, because what college they attend rather than their grades during college affects what jobs they get later in life. A high schooler in Japan wishing to get into Tokeyo University has to be what we'd consider honor students back home. And to get anywhere beyond middle management they not only have to shine, but shine far brighter than anyone who's ever worked... it's a miserable and busy system with very little time for leisure.
It's no wonder they're preoccupied with sex and don't spend much time trying to develop personal and intimate relationships. And it's also no strange notion, understanding the higher education systems in place from middle school to college, that more and more young people snap and decide never to leave their homes again, even if they're beyond bright. Having to deal with relationships, hormones, and the extreme pressure to succeed... I'm glad I'm an American where having a 3.1 GPA is not seen as "average."

Have you seen the **** the Japanese made before WWII??? They were weird long before the nukes.
Technically there were multiple nuclear tests done in various countries across the world, Murrica, Russia and Greenland included.
Japan has highly developed animation because they lack the diverse natural environments needed to create cost efficient sets for films. Hollywood, the place, is near many different natural sets like deserts and forests and beaches and mountains. Japan sort of lacks this because they don't have a lot of land mass as an island nation. had they successfully taken over China and pretty much all of Asia, they wouldn't have needed to create anime and make it their primary media entertainment. So yeah. I guess America was the reason why Japan created anime. And lets not forget Walt Disney who inspired the creation of it as well. His famous animations influenced the world. Disney is why anime exists.
Everything is all in reference to the time when it was created. Whether or not it is a factor now is not important as it has become so ingrained in their culture that it can't be removed.
Japan was nuked twice. With bombs that today would be laughed at.
The US and Russia made/tested by detonation so many powerful warheads that if your theory held true we would all be ******* anthropomorphous jelly robots and coloring ourselves purple to be beautiful.

Except that Americans created something similar, it is called comics and cartoons. Japanese simply went ahead and outlined what they see most important for character expression and characteristics, such as their eyes and hair, in the same manner as why in cartoons, men have such impossibly big jaws and women big tits.
Not much of a difference if you ask me.

never nuked by an outside force...
We must define "nuked" because the testing grounds in Arizona were nuked many times.

Technically, both the US and Russia have been nuked multiple times, as they tested their bombs on their own soil. As well as the fact that the United States tested their bombs on the Bikini Atoll, which was technically a self governing principality
Ive thought the same thing for a long time, that Japan is so ******* weird because of all the radiation
