ONLINE (12/16/2015) [-] Get off the hype train, faggot. It's an okay game, not nearly as amazing as everyone says it is.
Keep talking like that and I'm gonna beat your ass with a magical flute for shiny orbs that drop out of your corpse and then turn myself into a giant burning blob man that has the ability to become liquid and pass through floors while also having the sinister ability to pimp slap your **** with a glowing tentacle arm
Never slipped under my radar, I know exactly what you're talking about. Played the **** out of that game.
And if it didn't do things differently, why is it so popular?
Okay, tell me about a few games that are similar to Undertale.
Not to start an argument, Im really interested
Not to start an argument, Im really interested
Ok, I explained this to my friends but let's take a risky step and say it here.
Yes, Amazing music
Yes, Really good Characters
No, not a good game
HEYO YOU ***** ********** WAIT A SEC AND HERE ME OUT.
Take that hand off the red thumb! ..tak- no! TAKE IT OFF.
Good, now hear me out:
Undertale is not a good game, it's a good story, an amazing story even!, if this game was a Novel, one of those weeb games you just have to click, HECK, this game would've been SO much better, better graphics overall, a better system for what it is.
But no, they make it an R-P-G, a classical RPG even, and that's where i draw the line.
If you want to play the genocide run then yeah, it's all fine and dandy, you're a monster and playing an actual RPG, but what will you get out of it? nothing, because that's not the game.
True Ending and Pacifist run? to get that **** you need to play the boring way, listen to everybody (without skipping! the game takes care of that!), do the same things over and over, click, do this, click, do that, there's no real STRATEGY or GAMEPLAY, you're just playing.
Is it not fun? Maybe. Not for me.
It's fun for SOME people, yes, but not for me.
"Why the **** do I care?!" maybe because you're not a person like me, but some people like me are good people, they want people to be happy, I hate killing people
But I also hate a game that forces be to be BORED to enjoy a game.
Undertale is not balanced, you either have a good gameplay with a crappy storyline ( or a storyline some people wouldn't want ) or you have a crappy gameplay but with a good storyline.
And let's state this again, the actual storyline is the GOOD one, the TRUE ending, meaning the TRUE game is that fricking repeating Mercy stuff, filled with cheesy one-liners.
Is it a good game, No.
Is it a good story? Yes.
are the characters so amazing? Most Likely.
Does it deserve the praise it's getting? Yes and No, it's a good Novel/Story, but no as a game.
Can I Red Thumb you? Go Ahead.

i believe the whole point of the game was to turn the rpg trope on it's head.
i think toby fox (the creator of the game) even said at one point that he wanted to challenge the way people look at rpg's. you go into the game thinking it's the same as any other rpg. you kill things, you get stronger rinse and repeat.
but the curve ball here is that you can spare everyone. i mean why would you, right?
then you realize, hey these monsters aren't really the bad guys. put yourself in the role of the main character. would you just start killing everyone if you suddenly found yourself in their world? no, because you're not a killer in real life.
i mean sure, you can go around being the god of death and killing every single thing. but it's emotionally taxing, especially if you do it after a pacifist route when you already know all the characters.
let me tell you. i was pretty ******* confused when i played undertale. why the **** wasn't i getting any exp? is the game broken? how am i supposed to progress without any LV's?
the game does a pretty wonderful job of making you feel like an absolute dick if you kill people.
sure genocide is heartbreaking, but honestly neutral is even more sad. when people don't run away from you, but instead just wonder what happened to their friends.
if any other game tried doing something like this, i'd probably call it hipster trash wannabe artsy game. but toby fox managed to do this with flying colors. for once in my life i played a game that supposedly has a "deeper meaning" and it wasn't totally **** about what that meaning is, and how it's executed in the game.

I think your whole argument kinda falls apart when you consider that, as mazzy points out, the main thrust of the gameplay is the bullet hell aspect of the combat. No matter what path in the game you take, you gotta dodge friendship pellets, fireballs, skull lasers, etc.
I play video games a lot.
All kinds.
It's a good game.
In my top ten favorites, at least.
I really want to **** Toriel.

Honestly I think it's pretty **** and the description...
"UNDERTALE! The RPG game where you don't have to destroy anyone. "
Throws it on the whole "anti-violence in video games" band wagon to me, I mean who lists things you don't do as a games description unless you're tying to make a point about something?
BARELY FAST CARS 4: Where you race but don't break the national speed limit!
Also it's not funny in the slightest...

But you totally can kill everyone if you want to.
Nothin' wrong with that brah.
But you totally can kill everyone if you want to.

...but if you kill anyone we wil make the music spooky and everything is sad
Because you become the embodiment of true evil.
Every evil needs it's theme music.
Rock that **** .
And I mean you murdered someone's friends and family, You would think that he would be at least a bit upset.
But he's next.

But he's next.
oh and dont forget if you kill everything we will reward you with the hardest boss in the game
Dunno man, Photoshop flowey seems more harder to beat than Sans.
And Sans only kicks your ass due to his DETERMINATION level because you murdered his brother, who, when he was about to die, still believed in you.
But that sound. That you made.
That's the sound of someone who got dunked on.

Because the true ending is the true Pacifist run, where you spare everyone, and use different ACTs on them.
Example, Flirting with papyrus, Humming 5 times with Shyren. Singing a lullaby to Knight Knight. Afterwards fighting Photoshop flowey, and saving all the souls and allowing coexistence between Humans and Monsters
Or you could just say **** it and murder everyone to eventually sell your soul to Chara and exterminate all life in existence.

it was increadiby unique. "thoroughly enjoyed" is a stretch
But the worst ******* thing that ruined my genocide run.
I physically had to walk around on the spot till I found enough fights to move to the next area...
actually ruined any chances that game had.

I mean... for a game that was made by a single person, it's pretty damn good. But so is a third grade science project on volcanoes that you did yourself. Yet, you wouldn't submit that same project into a contest where it'd be up against a PhD candidate's thesis project. That's just silly.
What I'm saying is that sure, you applaud the third grader and he might get a prize from his school for "best project". Hell, he deserves it. He put 2 weeks of hard work into it. but it still doesn't deserve the same recognition as the PhD candidate who is not only older, but wiser, and has probably put in months, if not years of his life into just the thesis alone to prove that he's worth being recognized as one of the most intelligent people humanity has to offer.
It is also worth noting that I'm not trying to belittle the third grader's work. By all means, he could very well work on his on thesis years later. But even he will look back on his third grade project and chuckle.

I do like undertale but the fanbase is definitely a non desirable part. Guess thats the same with any fandom

If you guys liked Underale, i highly recommend Lisa: The Painful RPG
It's got similar earthbound combat, with post-apolyptic stuff, drug addiction, mutants and choices that can compromise the strength of your character. For example, Either have your arm cut off, permanently lowering your stats or having a party member die.
A life-ruining gaming experience.

Daily reminder that Brad did nothing wrong

It's not like I want to dislike Undertale.
But this fanbase sure is doing everything in their power to make me absolutely sick of it, and irritated everytime I hear it mentioned.

I have played Undertale and while it isn't bad it really isn't that good either. Probably a 6/10.
the game seems good, but the fandom is the cancer to end all cancers
To me, it's the fandom that makes me not want to play because I don't plan on getting sucked into that *********
so dont get sucked in, its not that hard, jesus christ whats so hard about enjoying the thing by itself.
Because god forbid I want a little slice of the fanbase that isn't wholly retarded where I can just look at the funny without dealing with people that take it too far.
well that makes more sense. but still isnt a a good reason to avoid it. avoiding everything with a fanbase made primarily of retards would result in enjoying just about nothing.
It sucks but more often than not there's just a happy medium when it comes to overbearing fans and good content.
that's true as well, hopefully in a few months something else will come out and these retards will flock to that, and the content surrounding undertale will be much more tolerable.
And if the game's cheap (to my understanding it already is), then I certainly plan on buying it through Steam and giving it a go on my own terms, meaning I don't want to come here and have 8+ people jump down my throat right of the bat and try to tell me how to play it the first time around, because I've already seen enough to know there's different ways to go about the game.
completely respectable all i tell anybody is, if they want the WHOLE story, the way you play it to get the most story out of it. but that only if you want the games whole story, not your own experience with a playthrough. and yea i believe its like ten bucks. i forgot what i payed since it really wasnt much
I tried Undertale, got to the Papyrus boss fight, killed him and then got bored.
It's not that I think it's a bad game or anything, but I kinda agree on the randumb humor bit and I'm just not a fan of the pixel art, turn based, gameplay stuff. I like having to think quick and be reactive to stuff instead.

Fun characters, great music, and something I find absolutely awesome. Choice. I can choose to kill everything that tries to fight me, or just the random encounters. Or I can kill nobody. And it actually has an effect on the story. No inconsequential gauge inching ever so closely to "evil" or "renegade."
...Hm. Now I kinda want to play Fable. It'd be fun if they could do something similar to Undertale. You know, make the characters fun and memorable, more engaging music, and the whole good and evil thing isn't so easily changed by throwing a few gold coins or humans at a voice in a room in a forest. Oh, and I want to be able to kill kids. I want that choice.

i will never buy undertale due to how ****** the content is that gets constantly spammed on this website
