Same thing, but with dice, paper, pencils, and a bit more freedom.
It largely depends on the GM and rules you're using.
Still, there are a huge amount of systems and if there isn't one for what you want then you can homebrew it. As for the GM you just need to find a good one or do it yourself.
What I'm saying is, you have more freedom, but you're typically still limited in many ways by rules that lay out more or less exactly what you can and can't do, and what your GM thinks your character should reasonably be capable of. In that sense, a given campaign is not all THAT much more free than a sandbox RPG video game.
Yes, the rules are there to adhere to logic and to ensure nobody can needlessly **** over another player or break the game more than he should and any good GM knows when to ignore them and when not to. In that case you're still limited, but in terms of story, character interaction, and variety of what you can play there's no comparison between vidya and tabletop
I think we're kind of talking about two different things, here. I'm talking about after you've already chosen a rule set, chosen/created a setting, rolled a character, etc. Once you lay down the ground rules, what everything and everybody is and does, all standard game development decisions, the field narrows quite a bit. Yes, if you take into account every rule set and possible combination of character/race/feat/talent/skill/perk/aspect, etc., tabletop is infinitely more variable. But, once you've established some things, things obviously become more concrete and immutable.
They need to create something to easily play dnd online with people. I've always wanted to play, but nobody nearby does. It appears to be a common dilemma.
Thank you good sir. Since you're being so helpful, what's the best edition of DnD to play? I've only played baldur's gate before.
The BEST one to play is a hard question. The easiest is the newest one I think (5th Edition). The most popular one was by far 3.5
Then I shall play 3.5, for I am no pussy! Thank you for your very helpful advice. We should play together some time, should fate permit.
There is a rule for EVERYTHING in 3.5 just fyi. Enjoy research.

Anyone know where you can play DnD online with others? It looks like so much fine.
I would quite like to get into d&d but I don't have the friends. Does anyone know a good site to do it online/ want to join?
I really want to get into the DnD world but lack the know-how. Anyone wanna send me a friend invite and fill me in. Would be much obliged.
Every time these are made, it makes me sad to say I may never play D&D again.
Someone on Fj should really get some people together.

I'm rolling up an aasimar character for pathfinder at the moment. Trying my best to have an angel blooded character not be an edgelord. So far I've given him a healthy, alive family, and made his class sorcerer, and keyed his non combat skills toward diplomacy. I think I've done relatively alright
I've always wanted to play DND, but it always seemed so complicated to me Is it actually as advanced as the videos i've seen on the internet make it out to be?
Depends on the system you're playing. The New DnD isn't that hard to start playing.
