I know they're illegal in the US, but aside from catching a raven how would I go about getting one?
Some illegal breeder?

You can scout around for a nest and get an egg or a very young one, or do what icameheretotroll said.
just feed them
they're smart enough to remember faces, and if you feed them enough times they'll just follow you home
getting it into a cage isn't going to work though

if you want to know how I know, I used to live next to an old dude who had a metric ******* of birds, legal and illegal, shoved into several cages out back
and he could never get a raven to trust him enough to go into one, but there were always the same few ravens hanging around where he fed them

You can basically domesticate one by giving some of them food
try to also wear the same outfit while feeding them and they will remember your face/outfit and if they're hungry they might follow you home and hang around there whenever they need food

I wish I could edit.
I would've made a short webM replacing the crow's audio with the "STOP. ******* STOP" from this vid.

The beaks on crows and ravens are nasty. They routinely decapitate pigeons in only a few pecks.
