Finland used to be part of the Russian empire and has been invaded 3 times by Russia in the last century. They're still weary of the Russians since Finland isn't in NATO and Putin has had wars with Georgia and the Ukraine recently.

The Winter war, the Continuation war (though both were part of world war 2) and the Finnish civil war in the 1918 were the Red Army and Finnish reds fought the Finnish whites and the German army, as well as volunteers from Sweden and the Baltics.

That last one sounds like a real *********** .

also finlands beef isnt only brought about by the wars. finnish attidute towards just about every other country(aka the grumpy finnish stereotype) can be traced back to the aftermath of these wars.

aka finland getting ****** hard in the ass by both germans and the allies.

first all of our cities got burned to the ground by germans after the world wars, then russia started to turn us into a satellite goverment(only deterred by the arms hiding operatioN) and started demanding we punish our wartime leaders and soldiers as war criminals, something which was againts our constitution, and after we had done just that, brits came in and told us they wanted the punishments to be EVEN MORE severe.


and everything after that can be summed up as paasikivi-kekkonen line. finland was trying to please russia in order to not get them to invade us again while trying to appear neutral to the western world. during this time talking positively about winter war was banned,russia was still interfering highly with our politics(suomestuminen) and the war reparations were difficult burden for us to carry.

I hope one day You lot and the Swedes join NATO, so that you don't have to pay lip service to Russia and the west and get fullproof for if Russia tries to go for round 4.

there is going to be a democractic vote for it..but most likely its not gonna happen...kekkos paasikivi line is still in effect even tho it supposedly ended with the death of soviet union...

Well they're basically norsemen, and in all seriousness the Fins have a good army. you guys gutted yours to uselessness like the Dutch or Belgians.

idk if our current militia can be even called a proper army..way too pc...

just checked and its 33,000 including conscripts, that's much smaller than I thought but it does have modern IFVs and tanks at least.

and 1 million or so in reserves.


the real reason i say its too pc comes from the fact that it is quite pathetically weak.


most of the finnish officers have never seen warfare in their life(there is even a special medal given to people who have actually fought in a battle)

finnish soldiers no longer do target practice to human shaped objects as its considered "damaging to their psyche"

a major in our military was quoted saying (my pops loves to tell this story) "its estimated that if russia was to invade finland,they would conquerror us in less than a week. how does this make you feel?"


and drill sergenants are no longer allowed to force conscripts to participate in military drills...



its just a glorified summer camp these days...

The formitive years of the Soviet Union were a *********** , in Russia you had the Bolshavik and Menshivik red armies, the white army and the black and geeen armies.

Finland was at war with Russia a long time ago. It was pretty big and left a large mark in history.
