No, our parents (At least the more vocal ones) are just over-sensitive and never taught their kids that not everybody will like them, or that some people are dicks for no good reason, or that they will not always be accepted/liked everywhere/by everyone.They try to make make their kids out to be special snowflakes immune to the problems of the world, which only sets them up for failure in the future.

In Middle School I was absolutely miserable and alone because everyone hated me for absolutely no reason. I was insulted on a daily basis and nobody did anything about it, except for getting me transferred to a new gym class when someone thew a metal can of body spray at my head in the locker room.

High School was great though, nobody was a dick to me and I had friends who shared my interests and it was all around a much more pleasant situation.
