Too many butt-hurt fools in the comments.

> Would you visit a ripoff store? Do you purchase knockoff products? No.
> Do a bunch of other people (with lower standards than yourselves) purchase knock-offs? Yes. Are they perfectly happy doing so? Yes.

Okay then.

> You go to 'Real' Starbucks, and be happy.
> They go to 'Fake' Starbucks, and be happy.

I'll never give "Dumb Starbucks" my business (because it's a snot-nosed knockoff), so my Johaneses remain Unwrinkled. So... what's the problem?

they were actually giving the coffee and biscuits away, and are only taking money for donations.

You guys may be laughing, but it wouldn't be funny if you spent your whole life creating a business and establishing its reputation for some moron to come along and call your business dumb while making money off of your exact ideas.

This is complete abuse of the law, and I hope they go out of business.

Yes, Exploit a law that let's us make jokes. Then complain when they change the law so you can't exploit it any more because it infringes on your freedom of speech.

#49 - CaptainLogs (02/10/2014) [-]
Even if they want to cry "parody" I don't think any court would buy that. I mean they're not really making fun of Starbucks they're just copying Starbucks' image and merely placing the word "Dumb" in front of it to cover their asses.

Unfortunately for the guy running this he did it in California and the courts there can be very strict on copyright infringement. For example Vanna White sued Samsung over an ad that featured a robot wearing a blonde wig in front of the Wheel of Fortune gameboard. She won that case because the court held that it was a violation of her image.

So yeah, this guy is going to get sued out the ass. Hell he should at least be sued for making a ****** Starbucks parody (seriously this could've been funny but instead all we got was *********** ).

Yet, he's planning on opening a second location in New York because of how popular it is(people stand outside for hours just to get in and buy a drink). There's a reason Starbucks hasn't taken action yet, and it's because they don't have a strong enough case except for "they aren't proving that they aren't affiliated with us, this could hurt our image".

The only thing they have to do to actually be safe is make it super clear that they aren't affiliated with Starbucks in any way.

The difference is Weird Al almost always ask for permission. In Jackson's case, I'm pretty sure Jackson knew and liked them. Same goes to Al's Nirvana and Lady Gaga parodies. Probably many others too.

I doubt Starbucks laugh at this parody. But well, law is law, we shall live on.
#191 to #180 - NicholasB (02/11/2014) [-]
Weird Al doesn't ask because he was told off for gangsters paradise / Amish paradise and that the artist wanted weird Al dead because he hated the fact he made fun of his song.
(Also weird Al then came dressed just like him even with hair and there was a fight or almost a fight)

Admitting that you're parodying the other shop just to steal customers would make it using their copyrights to steal their customers which would still be illegal.

Either this is fake or they have the worst lawyer ever.
