I think it'd be cool if they make a Total War/similar rts game of a modern Roman empire. Of course, that's not gonna happen with Total War because they tend to be relatively historically accurate...but I can dream.

The British Empire is a more accurate version of an empire, IMO, but maybe not a Roman one. The Third Reich isn't analogous to Rome because the Reich's goal was to assimilate/kill all of the conquered who were not of a desired culture. In Rome, their success in expansion came largely from being tolerant of the cultures which they conquered. And btw I never said Rome wasn't cruel and full of assholes - but it was a cool as **** civilization.

"just a little rushed"

The game may as well be a ******* alpha, even now it's future looks utterly dismal considering the AI are even more stupid than Rome 1, and the fact that simple battle tactics are non-existent.

I don't blame the devs but instead CA because even if all the bugs are gone, I don't see how people can play the game when all the AI does is run around the map like monkeys. Not to mention the most recent patch when your general gets a triumph on campaign the game crashes.

I thought I was one of the few here who played Pdox games.

Pic is my last CK2 Ironman Mode Campaign, 1066 start date. Started as the Duke of Munster and ended up forming the Kingdom of Ireland. Then took half of Scotland. Usurped the title and then went to war for the left over. Pressed one of my family's claims for England. Then later formed Britannia. Then pressed my wife's claim for France. And then my last character was married to a woman who controlled a duchy in burgandy and a duchy in Bohemia.

I tried to convert to EU4, it "worked" but didn't. England, Scotland, Wales, and France ended up becoming independent vassals. Which I imagine might have something to do with the fact the Kingdom titles of England, Wales, Scotland, and France was not directly held by me. But then again the EUIV convert is still fairly new and needs some work.

Personally I think all of those said nations should be under my realm, not independent vassals.

You need high crown authority for them to not become vassals in the conversion, absolute for the HRE.

Well its how it is in ck2. Your vassals are under you sure, but they are able to do as they please like declaring holy wars and other things until you pass high authority.

Well I can understand that, it's just with the type of feudal vassal system that was put into place in that era, at the end date of CK2 (1453, or whatever it is.) they were in my realm, but then magically leave my realm upon conversion into EU4.

I understand EU4 is more nation driven rather than character driven, but in this instance regardless of crown authority I would think, regardless of the Kingdoms of Scotland, England, Wales, and France being held by family and electors they would stay under Britannia's direct realm rather than be released as independent vassals.

Thankfully I still have the Britannia save file so I think I'll just wait awhile and try it again, infact I should probably post something on the forums about it.

That being said I'm an ironman mode guy, I used to have too much of a tendency to reload my saves when something goes wrong, but Ironman mode is more of a challenge to me. And that also disables the console, unfortunately.

^ what he said

Before doing anything else you should send your starting diplomat to Rome (greeting everyone on the way there) and kiss the pope's ass. Also, keep that diplomat near Rome. Once you've got an alliance (and high relations) with the papal states the game becomes much easier because anyone christian attacking you will become excommunicated quickly, allowing you to crusade against them. And if things go south you can always gift the pope an undefendable/useless/freshly conquered border-settlement as a buffer (and he will love you for it)

I enjoy all of the Total war games, except for Shogun 1 and Med 1 cause I never played them, but Med II gets me angry so quickly cause of the horrible AI during an assault on cities/castles. When I tell my infantry to attack something I want the entire unit to attack, not just send in men piece meal to get slaughtered by the enemy that should have no chance of winning. The AI during open battles is great though.

Same with Empire, open terrain the AI is great, but as soon as I assault a city or fort suddenly my troops forget how to climb a wall or somehow get half the unit on the wall and the other half milling around on the ground like assholes.

I enjoyed Rome II, but the problem with that was that all I had to do was just mass up all my hoplites and pikemen together in one **** huge group and nothing could beat me. At least in assaults, there was once where I was almost beaten during an field battle, but that's cause there were 3 half-armies coming at me
